I'm using a complete 31 ford front end on my project. It needs new brakes. What brakes should i use?40's juice or any other options? This is my first build. I'm using a 34 chevy truck body and 35 ford wire wheels.
Try to get some F-1 or F-100 brakes. Speedway makes an adapter kit for them Also, they are self energizing. Butch
If you want to use '35 wires you should use the '40 Ford style Lockheed juice brakes, you also need to use the support rings for the wheels to bolt up properly. F-1/F-100 brakes would require very thick spacers which makes the tread width look goofy, besides wire wheels were pretty much out of style when people started using effie brakes.
Wilson Welding have 39 Lincoln style self energising brakes, Ive used them and they are ****** awsome!!
would 1954 f100 brake set up work on my 1931 model a axle and spindles? would 54 spindles fit on a 31 modle a axle. I ask because I can get 54f100 brakes and hubs. And remember im using 35 wire rims. Thanks
You can adapt the F-100 backing plates and hubs to the "A" spindles. The F-100 spindles will not fit the "A" axle, both the kingpin inclination and diameter are different. Tough to use '35 wires on F-100 drums, see post #3.
You will need to machine a spacer for the inner bearing to ride on and will also need to get the Speedway adapter kit for the backing plate spacer. Then you will need to get support rings to run the wire wheels.
I'm thinking of using "the below web address" brake kit on my 31 spindles. before i buy it, i'd like the hear from ya'll if it suits my needs for the front. OR Should i go with disc brake setup with 37ish spindles. And remember its going with 35 ford wire wheels. THis is for the front. My rear end is probably another thread. Thanks for the kind help! http://www.mtcarproducts.com/Brakes.html
Those brakes will work with your A spindles as long as you use the adapters mentioned....and support rings for your wire wheels.
It states in the ad which drums should be used depending on what size shoes you get. You will need support rings regardless of the drums you choose.
Properly centers the wheel on the hub. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Early-Ford-Wire-Wheel-Support,5846.html
