It's been asked a couple of times, but no real answer. What is the point? Just to see if you can? For the sound?

These headers in their best professionally built form KILL bottom end power. I can only imagine with these 3' long unequal primaries what would happen. Looks to me like you would want all the bottom end you could get in a small block STATION WAGON. Right?

    Just wondering....

The reason I'm building a car with 180 headers is that they are supposed to be a lot more efficient.

The equally spaced pulses help scavenging, and the sound is cool but just a side effect.

I promised myself a V8 on Webers with a 180 system long time ago.

    Its finally time...

More efficient than what? We ran these things (the real ones) on racecars years ago. That's what they were designed for. They really don't start making power until about 4500 rpms. I can't imagine they would be more efficient than a header designed for the application.

They sound great, and the Weber idea is cool. Just looks like an abortion the way the tubes are routed, just to say you did it.

Good luck with it, hope you like the results. That's all that really matters anyway.

More efficient than the ones in your avatar, for a start. :D

Had a set of those on a car, didnt like them...

    Yep...

And to make sure there is no confusion...

There are 3 Street Cars that are being built in Tucson right now with 180 headers on them ( that I know off...)

    Ramaro's '57 Chevy.

    My Mk1 Capri.

And a buddy of mine who is building a Pantera with a supercharged 351C in it.

I think we all started building ours, without knowing about the other 2 getting 180's.

    Like I said...

Must be something in the water...

    Edit.

Out of those 3, the '57 is the closest to being On Topic for the HAMB.

But maybe its better to move it to the Dogfight Forum as well...

Unless your running 1 1/2 inch tubes on your headers... Headers dont usually make more power than a manifold until after 4500 rpm....
If YOU were running them on a RACECAR..... then the cam profile probably didnt start making power until 4500 rpm either.... so, your comparing apples and oranges...
And as Metalshapes said.... If we are gonna talk about Headers and what is efficient or not..... Lakes headers probably top the list for POOR efficiency. On headers... the collector is where the power is made... scavenging is what its all about... lakes headers dont have a collector and have poor scavenging!!!!! Scavenging is what creates the suck that makes the carb work.... more air in.... more air out!!!! If you can get the air out more efficiently.... It will go in more efficiently... BLAH BLAH BLAH...

I personally like the Header Ramaro is building BECAUSE they are not ANOTHER set of lakes headers.... IE: monkey see, monkey do

Charles, my advice would be to get a set of Chrysler long ram intakes and modify them for this motor. That should make tuning a cinch.Bill

Header tubing is NOT always the same length to be ideal, but the path that the air travels does. Do you think air flows right down the centerline of each tube, in radius too? Don't think so.

Yeah it's funny, guys with Frankenstein cars poopooing Frankenstein headers. Give the kid a break and don't be a dumb-ass just because he's not part of your circle jerk.

Sorry for the negs, but posting something here is an open invitation to comments. After all, we aren't a mutual-admiration society that offers unconditional support for the sake of good feelings.

Seems like a lot of trouble to make a mid-century American V8 sound like a European race car. Not to mention that it looks like a metallic octopus has attacked the engine from above, and ignoring the fact that it's gonna get hot as hell in there.

I saw it a while ago.

He changed his intake with 8 downdraft throttlebodies, and he is no longer using the 180 exhaust.

But he is driving it, and it sounded really good...

I'm pretty sure he has a thread on the Dogfight Forum about it.

This is actually kind of funny. Between EarlyHemiBill's injected desoto hemi-powered valiant, ENFO's soon to be turboed Anglia, Metalshapes' DZ 302 powered Capri, Westons' 472 6 speed unibody ford(if he gets that thing done!), us Tucsonans have the franken-hot rod market cornered. lol

Awesome job!! People who don't understand the 180's, have never heard a set at full song. Here are a set of NOS 180's for a 351 Clevo that I will put on something someday:

The heat will be needed here in the brutal Tucson winters. Last winter it got down to 17 degrees one night and killed our lemon tree. Those pipes will help keep the motor warm on those cold winter nights. Keep going Charlie! See ya at Little Anthony's. Bill

  24. ed Howe would be proud of you

rember they are real strong on the midrange
and smootH out and get Quiet about 6 to 7k rpm

loved them on circle track but they do really put out tons of heat too:eek:
