I just brought this car home yesterday. I've been on a journey to save as much as I can from getting s****ped. The guy I bought this from told me that it was given to his parents as a wedding gift in 1954 when it was new. It has aftermarket a/c in it and the 241 Red Ram Hemi. It was stored in a barn until approx 5 years ago when they need the space for farm equipment. Looks to be fairly complete except for the radiator. Even has the hubcaps on it still. I asked him why he didn't keep it since it was his parents and he said he doesn't put any sentimental value on stuff. To him it was spacejunk. Junk that took up space. I'm planning to resell to further some of my other projects and to use the money to save more cars. Any idea as to what maybe I should ask for a price? The interior is ok, but has mice holes. Was really nice and even had the plastic covers but the last 5 years outside along with the mice it took its toll. Hardly any rust to speak of. Real solid project. He said his cousing hit the front fender with the tractor when they pushed it into the field. Gees, just had to mess up a perfectly good fender after all those years and just the right patina.
I haven't had a chance to put a wrench to the crank to see if it'll turn yet. The odometer says just over 36,000. It has either turned over and was well taken car of or this is original miles. Looks like all the damage to the car was from rodents and the last 5 years outside.
I'd guess you'd get between $800-$1200 for that, depending on whether or not the engine turns. And I'd also guess that the buyer will pull the motor and part out the rest. Kind of a shame, but that's what happens to the majority of these. Still, neat car and a good save.
Like to see if it runs. I thought I read somewhere on hear that I need to clean and lube up the upper end of the engine on these Hemi's after they sit so long.
Yeh, I hate to see everything with a hemi get knocked in the head and parted out. I, however, have done my share of that. I say get it running and drive it.
Thats one neat car, especially with that hemi. Good thing I didn't find that car, I could not bring myself to part it out, I know I would end up keeping it. I hate seeing such nice and complete car parted out. Hope this one makes it down the road in one piece some day again.
I'd hate to see it parted out just for the motor (and I know where one is sitting but I ain't telling) - however, I'd take that grille for my 54 Savoy.
I bet that a/c still couldn't keep you from sticking to those plastic seat covers. Hope she finds a good home intact also.
Great find..... Seems like there are plenty of cars just sitting,I know there were more before the price of metal shot up so years back.Everyone was s****ing then... Steve
Is the ****** a Gyromatic(automatic with a clutch)? My 53 Coronet had the 241 with the Gyromatic and the ****** was the worst part of the package.
