Anybody ever used or heard one of these pumps running. How is the noise ( sound level ) compaired to an air bag pump? <TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%" noWrap align=right>Add to Watch list</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
not sure what brand pump that is but I'm running a Delco # 5048967 vacuum pump on a blown/hemi model A with 4 wheel power disc brakes and I've never heard the vacuum pump running....turn on the ignition and the fuel pump is all that's heard until it fires and the blower and exhaust take over from there..
A friend had one like yours in a 40 pick up.It was a bit loud till he mounted it with rubber isolators.Goog to go after that.Good luck
I've got one (had it about 10years) it's not bad you can hear it at idle, but the loud pedal fixes it nicley, now aftermarket hydraboost systems are becoming popular for big cammed rods, I'd consider that in my next project
I did get one from Ebay $100.00. Very quiet, works well, pulls 24 to26 inchs of vac http://www.ebay.com/itm/200694143304?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
All of the GM supercharged 3800 cars have them and its undetected. My truck has one and I've never heard it. These units are different from the one you have pictured.
Has anybody used an electric rotory vane vac pump from a Volvo? I have been told they are very quiet as I need to mount a pump under the dash.
I've used the ones in the pic (from stainless steel brakes) and you can hear them. It also has a vacuum switch that will bring in the pump at each touch of the brake pedal - you can add a vacuum can and it won't make any difference. What they need is a window switch where there is a range between on and off. that vacuum switch is a maintenance item as well, i've had them fail. I took one apart once and they are not substantial at all, just a thin metal disc that gets ****ed away from a contact pin that gives the relay a ground, all it need is a little corrosion and it won't give a ground and you can't get to them to clean. Other than being overloud, irreliable and expensive they are damn near perfect.
Tried one in a 61 Caddy with a custom dual quad set up on a built 500 from MTS. HATED it! Just like the one you pictured. Used the rubber mounts, Tried 2 locations. NOISEY anywhere! Definately not Cad worthy. Went to a dual diaphram booster and got adequate brakes. I like the Hydraboost suggestion.
