I want to re-body My roadster. It is a gl*** body now and I would like to switch to a Brookville. Also going to change the rear end around, full hood, different trans, tradition style windshield, new interior, wheels etc...

Any body have any luck selling an entire body, top, windshield, interior etc.. all as one unit? Or am I being rediculous. Another option would be to sell the car as is and build another, but I feel like I would be doing a lot of work over that I have already done.

    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Neil

Sell and build a new one. M.O. Just sounds easier to me. There will be stuff you might want to change on the ch***is ALS. Just build all new the way you want it. Beside gl*** or not your car looks awesome.

I sold a Gl*** 32 Coupe body, complete with interior to do the same thing.

If you are happy with the ch***is and can sell the body top and interior to cover the Brookville I guess it is a good move, just seams like a lot of money will be lost/spent in the process.

Thats a great looking car!!! What do you want to do, rebuild it as a traditional car? IT's pretty traditional now. Rebody it as coupe? I've seen a few lift off bodies for sale, complete w/ interiors, but most guys take a loss on all the work done. BILL RINALDI

Did you built this car? If you could afford it, I would start over and keep this one till the other is finished before selling it. To me the ch***is is the easiest part to build. Getting the body to fit especially with a full hood is difficult and the frame must be correct. You do not know this with your existing car. You are going to have to rewire, paint, new steering column, etc. anyway. If you want to keep the motor, just put your existing motor in the new car and a crate motor in the present one before selling. Figure how long and how much you expect it take and double the cost and tripple the time. Just my $.02 worth.

I did build the car myself, not sure if I want to build another one from scratch right now. I just finished a vintage USAC midget restoration so I am out of $$ and room so something has to go if I build another one. Just trying to really think it through before I tear it apart and then regret it.

l sold just the body off a 1929 gl*** roadster to do a 1930 dodge steel body.

l lost a ton of money by just selling the body.

we had to completely redo the frame to make it fit proper & alot of work and time to make it just rollable.

sell it and start from scratch.

should be able to get good coin, it look really nice:D

    Later

Neat Roadster, I'd advertise the body, and price for what you think you need, no-harm done if it doesn't sell.

There is a guy from Wisconsin on Fordbarn trying to do something similar, looking to sell a steel 32 Sedan body...for a steel roadster conversion.

let me start of with ...

    are you nuts?????
the car is beautifull why do you want to rip it apart?????

Ill bet you were one of the kids on the block that had a schwinn apple crate that wanted to repaint it as a pea picker

if your set on building another car dont rip this one apart sell it and
start from scratch with a (REAL BODY) forget the brookville body

  13. The only way I'd take that car apart is if I won a brookville or Santa brought me an original.
I might contemplate it if I woke up and there was a rolling ch***is in the driveway for the FG body to go on.

  14. Tough call. I think I would just change the wheels put some hood sides on it and maybe do the interior.

The beauty of a 32 roadster you can change it all around and change it back pretty easy and with out spending alot of money.

And if you do tear it all apart let me know how much you want for the body and windshield.

Man, that is a hard thing to make a decision on. If you decide to do it I would try to pre-sell the body before anything was done. Your car looks great now and can be easily tweaked to get where you want to be unless you're hell bent to have a steel body. Take it slow and the answer will come.

Though decision. Swaping bodies is less work than building another car. . . but selling just the body just might be a bad decision financially.

Can you do body and paint work? Can you sell your body for enough to cover the cost of the Brookville body, plus paint, materials, etc? . .

If you break even it's not a bad deal.

  17. like most everyone else. i would just start over from scratch. sell the one you have now. or try and keep it... thats what i like to do. dont get rid of anything just get another one. then again i also dont have anything near completion. i also dont have a huge bank roll to begin with.

I see no problem with keeping the 'gl*** and changing the details you want different, but if you must have steel you should sell the whole car and start over fresh.

Besides the hood sides and interior, are we talking motor or ch***is changes? If not just keep what you have.

How about a REAL Henry 30 - 31 roadster or coupe body????? They're half the price of a Brookville. Even a rusted out carcus would look good on that. I think that would give you the piece of mind your looking for. ****, even a 26 27 28 & 29 would look good in that. ****, I could put my desk on that and it would look good!!!

Ok! That looks allrite to me... But maybe change the screen to something Henry would have built... And move the headlights furter back. raise the back upp 1-2 inches and lower the front the same.... Gl*** or Brookville doesent matter... IT WILL NOT EVER BEE A FORD And then sell it!

Seen your car before and must say its beutiful! I think you may take a loss selling the body and harware in pieces, I have know a few who took this route with resaults they were looking for a Steal 32 but at same time in dosnt always end up a benifit financially to go that route. It would cut down on the time though to rebody and use what you have, If the plan is to put a coupe together start over if a roadster is what you want use the pieces you have (Interior, trim, ect) and rebody just my thoughts but Im a Damn fool anyways!!!!
P.S if you rebody let me know, I plan to put another 32 together just dont know how soon.

Forgot to add also if your going with a QC, as I remember yours now has a 9" with a flat crossmemeber and want more traditional wishbones a complete new ch***is may be a better option. As I said before I have seen your car and its all very nice top to bottom that Im sure you can get a good price for it if your wanting a little different look. ( may be wrong on the rear its been a couple of years since I last saw it)

Why not advertise the body for a fair to high price and test the market? If the right money comes along for the body, do it. If not, find another way.

I tired to do the same thing with a 33 roadster that I started prior to the availability of steel ones that are now available. I ended up selling the entire car for a considerable loss and have never been able to find a steel one I could afford. Financially and time wise it is much cheaper to switch bodies than start from scratch. I should have traded it for what I thought I wanted and I would be driving instead of building. My 2 cents.

Thanks for all the replies and PM's. I am still not sure what I am going to do, but it seems tearing my car apart is not the right way to go. With all the weird weather here in the Midwest, maybe a coupe would be better. So many options.

Will probably try to sell my car out right and build what I want.
