A really cool reminder for when to change your oil...you insert a key in the side to change the odometer mileage...wonder what year this is from?...'40's, '50's?

What little back-in-the-day gem do you have?

All I have from back then is a crappy old car built by a guy named Henry.

I wasn't born last week, either, but I have never seen one of those. I think Granddad would have had one - it's right up his alley.

For a second I thought that was set to show 180,000 miles, and thought it was interesting that that the Chevy accessory anticipated higher mileages than the odometer in the car. Volvo was the first car I knew to have the 6th digit on their odos.

My mother had a similar thingie in her Buick back in the '60's, but it was made of plastic. Yours is obviously older, and a higher quality piece.

That was a piece for the wealthy. I had a masking tape and wrote the mileage on it and stuck to the windshield. Thats a cool piece.

Thanks Larry! This should be a good thread were everyone can post small automobila pieces, stuff small enough to fit in a coat pocket. Here is an original Selden Patent plate and a link to the history behind it. One of the greatest things Henry Ford did was fight it and win. Senior discount an all I have never seen one of those before.

  13. I've seen them, but I'm not old enough to remember using them.

  14. I remember my uncle had one in his 34 Chev in the late 40's. I think it's most likely a late 30's item. It seems like oil changes were more of an annual event than miles traveled back then

I tried to bid on a couple that were on epay a few years ago but they went for way too much money for this cheap ass to pay,I wanted to put one in my 37 Chevy p/u since I am trying to find those stupid little accessories that a truck owner would install back then.

  16. I'm 71 & I don't remember seeing one of those but I was in a little town in MO & all my speed stuff came from Monkey Wards catalog store.

There was one glued to a 41 ford pickup dash so heavily the owner had me help him get it off. Lots of heat gun and careful pulling and peeling. It wasnt quite the same but it was definitely that old and metal. I think he kept it for his collection, well i hope he did.

  18. I, too, am very, very old, but I have never seen one of those. I have to get out of the house more often.
