Im looking into hooking up my front swaybar. The bar and suspension are factory except for the perch pins the sway bar links to. I`m using the C and E smooth top perch pins.

The orig perch pins are hard to find and they arent repopped. I have a rear C and E sway bar already on. I talked to them awhile ago (2 yrs or so) and they didnt make one for the factory suspension.

What have others done for the 46-48 fords? Is there a thicker bar I can use from another car?

Ive been advised not to weld on the perch pin or the wishbone arm. So for right now im thinking of adapting links from a 99 altima and a aftermarket suspension type clamp.

Im getting the car ready for some dragracing this summer and was told the top heavy cars like mine can be a handful top end.

    Thanks, Mark

I'm not following one part of what you are saying. Could you use original 46-48 perch pins if you could find them, or will they not work with your setup for some reason ?

  3. Just some ideas.

Stock perch bolts show up quite often on that auction sight at reasonable prices.

I don't know feasible it would be; but could you remount the bar a little forward and use the Chassis Eng "peanut" brackets on the bottom of the axle.

I used a thicker front bar from www.weedetrstreetrod.com (weedburner 40 0n the HAMB).
I am using a 40 Fort dropped front crossmember so I had to make some custom axle mounts. I think the heavier bar will work better with the Chassis Eng rear bar I am using.

    Don:
I would like a heavier bar, but if I could find the orig style perch pins i would go with them to save on costs. I`ve just started thinking about this again. I tried 2 yrs ago to find some, but nothing came up on ebay. When something did it was for only one.

    Rich:
I sent an email to weedsterstreetrod asking about the bar and links. I might go that route.

I have parts left over from my 48 coupe ( Installed a MII ) . What exactly are the perch pins? If I have them you are welcome to them. John

I have a complete 46 frontend, I'll take a look to see what it has for swaybar setup and let you know. The stuff you're looking for shouldn't be that hard to find.

I used a 90's Jeep Cherokee (not Grand Cherokee) anti roll bar on my '47 Ford Coupe build. Width is good and it is much stiffer than the the stocker. The front mounts I attached to angle brackets which bolted on using the same bolt/holes for the front bumper brackets. At the rear I used the Jeep links by fabricaing a small bracket for that purpose. Readily available used for very little money.

Thanks for the replies! I was able to bolt up my factory swaybar using my idea of nissan ultima links, leaf spring clamps and welded up brackets. works pretty good.

My neighbor has a jeep cherokee going for scrap so he gave me the front swaybar. The width was good like Hnstray said, but the curved up ends would have interfered with my C&E shock kit. if they were straight it would have worked fine. But at least I have something to base ideas on now when I do go for something beefier. Thanks!
