Hey guys, I'm attempting to rebuild the rear wheel arch on my 52 Cussy. It was so badly eaten away that I can't get an accurate shape of the curves of the arch on the right side. I've made a template from the left side, which is still a bit of guesswork, because it's not a great deal better than the right side! I think I've pretty much got it now, but what I'd really appreciate is if someone with a 52-54 Ford could squat down and take a close up direct side on view of his RHS rear guard arch with a camera, and post it on here, I'd be forever grateful to him & I'll dance on his grave!.
My plan is to copy & print the photo, transfer it to grid paper & make a full scale template on some cardboard or MDF board so I can get the shape right. I know it won't get me the angle of the curl under, but I can get that from the left side.
    Thanks guys,
    Mick

Thanks man. There's a few good ones there. Geez...! You've been a busy boy with that wagon. That's a helluva restoration job. You gotta be pretty proud of that! I don't think my workmanship is in the same ballpark! I wish I had your talent!

    Cheers,
    Mick

  4. Another Idea is to locate a good fenderskirt. I have a NOS set I would be bappy to make a tracing for you and drop in the mail. I will attach a photo of another option with a radiused wheel opening

I did my Edsel ones using a pair of fender skirts like loveoftiki suggested, worked really well although they might be hard to come by in Oz. If you didn't get what you needed from Hotrodprimer's build pics, let me know and I'll snap a couple of my '52 parts car.

Thanks guys. "Loveoftiki, by NOS I guess you mean new old stock yeah? They'd be something like hen's teeth here in oz. Radiused wheel arches... they look like a good idea. Is that your build in the photo? Thanks for the offer to make a tracing. I've got a few good pics from Hotrodprimer's build and a few others I found surfing around, so don't get your pencil out just yet. To post something like that from the states to oz might cost a bit bigger than a normal post and I wouldn't want you to spend your hard earned just for me. But it's nice to know there's still a few of us good guys around spread around this big ol' tennis ball

Don't forget to join up with the '52-'59 Ford social group! Lots of great info over there, and a million '54 Ford pics that might help out. Plus, we all like seeing new Fords in the group. :)

Hi, Mick, Just use a pair of correct skirts to form the wheel well radius. I did this on my 56 Dodge. I welded in 5/16 rod to form a strong arch and then wire welded in new steel. The skirts fit perfectly, Bill

Good idea Bill. My only problem there is I can't readily get my hands on a pair of correct skirts. Actually I'm going around it the long way a bit. I cut & shaped halt a dozen strips of cardboard at 4" apart on the good side & measured from a straight edge which I marked half way up the guard & I transferred those across to the other side. so it's measure -bend- measure - bend cut- measure- bend.... it's actually starting to take up the right shape. a few coffees & beers later I might just get it right. Got plenty of time :) And thanks guys for the advice. I 'spose I should get a few build pics up. "EchofGecko", (I hope ya mother didn't christian you that!!) I'll probably join up soon.
