looking to swap out the rear end gearing for some more longer legs. i am thinking 4.10 may be the ratio i am looking for. what model years of chevy or gm can i be searching for for an easy swap. i have heard 67-72's with an auto ****** is my best bet but i would like to broaden the search if possible.

i am sure many of you have done this same conversion in the past. any comments or have you been happy with the results.

I think you will be looking at 67/69 as the rear ends get wider starting with 70 on those trucks if you are planning on running the 8 lug rear end with a box and fenders.
if you were running a flatbed some of 70/and later trucks may have a 3.72 or 3.55 rear end. hunt for GMC rear ends as they usually have leaf springs.

I put a complete rear from an 87 3/4 ton suburban into my 57 3800 (single wheel). 3.73 gears

I am sorry I should have provided more specific info. I am planning on keeping the original rear end, just want to change out the rear differential gearing. Looking for better highway speed. I have heard its a real easy swap with the proper replacement parts.

4.10 gear sets for the HO52 and HO72 Eaton rear axle were produced from '68-'72. Usually, but not always found behind V8 automatic 3/4 ton trucks. I recently pulled a 4.10 center section from a '70 3/4 ton suburban that will go into my '49 3800.

i found a ho52 complete rear end. do i need to replace the entire rear end or will the gearing slip right into the stock rear end? i have heard it is a under hour process which makes me believe it is just the gearing.

  8. Good luck on your swap! What about an intro, you know it's kinda like saying hello when you walk into someone's house and not just sit down in the best chair and grab a beer!

It's a drop out third member, similar to a Ford 9 inch. It will bolt up to your original housing.

swap went great. pretty easy once we got all the correct parts and pieces together. could tell the difference right out of the gate. now just got to get the engine swapped and cranked!

next year is the ******! looking for suggestions.
