Hey guys! i have already posted som pics of my crappy chevy 55 streetrace car in the 55 chevy gasser thread. but well why don´t i start a project-thread about it instead? if someone´s interested :)
my english sucks but what the hell... hope you´ll understand something!
i´m from the deep forest´s in sweden so don´t judge me to hard! :D

the story: a smalltown guy from mid-sweden bought this car as a -56 4door for a "few bucks" in USA and imported it. then he scratched his beard and in the same moment he saw TWO LANE BLACKTOP. and then he started to weld it together and he dreamed on about laying long burnouts!
after all welding he sold it to a friend... but he regret it and bought it back (lucky for me) cause he pulled in a 454high performance machine into it!

after some months he thought he was done with this, the kids took all of his time and you can´t build a racecar like this when youre unemployed and have three kids...

well it´s now i came in to the picture!
i have moved my studebaker 1931 hotrod to another garage and now i´m gonna finish the 55 racer!
it takes many long nights to finish this beast, but what the heck, i have my dreamcar now!

now time to show some pics of the old 4door....

let´s take it from the start...

    after a while....

this is some pics when i came home whit the car.

i tore out the engine and the front suspension almost directly. i thought i would need to upgrade it a bit......
    4bolt 454 and i....

    lookin better.

anyone who would take this on a ride with a powerful bigblock...? don´t think so...

i fixed it up "a little bit" and bought some REAL brakes from speedwaymotors, don´t want that drumbrake crap with old spinder nest´s in it... pollyurethane bushings was included in my order...

    this is like christmas...

    gorgeous!

this is my tranny i´m gonna use! a Borgwarner Super T10 4speed. with hydraulic clutch and hurst shifter, notice the linelock knob from mr-gasket! a old friend of mine had it in a transam in the 80´s.

it may look like crap in your eyes, but i think it turned out pretty cool :)

    some clutch stuff from wilwood....

it´s nearly time to paint the firewall and testfitting the gearbox and motor again, so pics will come up if you´re interested!

hope you enjoy it and follow my work :) :)

thank´s for the post! i´m doing my best :) i´m only 22 and my experience from this yankee cars is about zero.... ;) but i´m learning fast! i started my "career" with volvo 142´s.. like any swedish gearhead would do!
here´s a bonus pic of my two other toys, my old volvo 142 with rollcage and 200horsepower 2,1litre B20. webercarbs of course....
and the pretty rare Studebaker body that i found, was a 4door "in pieces" when i bought it. in the future it will be havin a 302cui chevy smallblock with webercarbs.

Can you tell me what I'm seeing as far as the shifter? Did you modify that, or is it something that's now available? More pics? (it almost looks leather wrapped). Thx

  8. looking good... keep it up!

  9. So it started as a '56 and became a '55?

That car is way cool my friend. Some of the stuff is a little modern but it is modern in good taste. You got it in spades with that one.

And your english is fine. don't sweat it.

hey! the shifter is just some homebuilt crap by me!, i spotwelded that pipe right on the hurst shifter, then painted it when it was to cold so it looked like hell on earth when it was dry! but i came up with the idea to sand it down a bit to get that "rough" iron look!
well... it shure is personal! ;)

Cool. The spot welds look a little like heavy stitching that you'd maybe see on a leather steering wheel wrap or something like that

  12. Looks like you're doing just fine, keep up the good work!!

I'm always curious about these things. Why not spend that time on something that's always visible? Seems like a big waste to polish the trans(?)

How long did it take you to polish the trans to that point? That's crazy

Well, I ask for 2 reasons.
1-I often see guys around here tend to those details and then lose interest/drive towards the end, and the last, more visible things don't look as good.

2-I've seen guys polish/powder/stripe their frames/suspensions/gas tanks, and then put a clapped out body on top and leave it that way forever.....using that clapped out body to hide all those countless hours of work.

It just confuses me sometimes. Me? Paint/polish/chrome from the firewall forward. Then, it's all "ass" from the back of the firewall to the back bumper. LOL

What did you use to get the aluminum to shine like that (paper, polish, etc)?

    Keep on going, looks good.

I don't know if you need any ideas, but I have a couple old gassers in my albums that you could look at. Not that you need too, I can't believe you done this much at your age.
