If you have the current issue of HOT ROD Magazine turn to page 76, that 1933 Phaeton won The Hartford Armory show in the early 1960's. Built by Jerry Letieri it was sold after the show for around $900.00 to a fellow in Stamford, Ct. The trail ends there,it hasn't been seen since, did some old geezer take a perfectly good Hot Rod and RESTORE it? The photo caption is incorrect, the photo isn't from Oklahoma City, the cars have Connecticut plates because they are in a city in Connecticut, if you recognize anything in the photo please post a reply. Bob
I don't recognize anything, but I'd bet it's Hartford, and the cars are part of a promotional deal to get more ticket sales in the Autorama. If Maratta was running it then, that would make perfect sense.
Jerry Letieri has been looking for his old Hot Rod for a very long time that photo in the latest issue of Hot Rod was from a parade in 1958 the cars are driving down a street in hartford CT. IM sure the car is still around however IM certain it has been restored. Jerry over fifty years after that photo was taken is still enjoying Hot Rods and cars of all types he has never slowed down. He owns an original California built Hot Rod "A" roadster with early Caddy power and the prize of his collection is the Zora Arcus Duntuv 1949 J-2 Allard which is ARDUN powered. This Allard is the first race car to ever be powered by an ARDUN. Ronnieroadster
Glad you spoke up! I live near OKC and have been trying to figure out just where this picture could have been taken. Nothing seems to ring a bell in the OKC I know, but good old urban renewal could have done away with all of the buildings...Hopefully you can place it in Ct.
I grew up in Vermont, we used to come down to Hartford every Feburary for the Autorama in the 60's. There were many nice rods in that area back in the day. I spent a summer in Manchester in 63, cool hot rods there too. I wish you luck finding the 34 tub, not many of them anywhere!
Bob it could be the south end of main street in Hartford accross from what is now the Hartford Public Library. Tom
Here's a pic I recently discovered. The parade pic is from Frank Marratta's "Hot Rod Jambori" which included a huge parade thru Hartford ending at the Meadows Drive In. Where a lrge car show took place including a beauty pageant and the Carbs of Hartford ***embling a a 33 Ford Coupe in from base frame to running car in an hour
Thinking Hartford , prob south end , early shows i went to were at the armory , Were they any where else before the armory?
I believe this parade was before any of the Armory shows. I'll post some articles from the Hartford Times about it Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
The picture is main street just north of Charter oak Ave. the church with the pillars is still there today.
