There is some heavy glue on my sill plates. Looks like they tried to glue the carpet down at one point. Tried a wire wheel... glue won. What kind of chemical will take thick glue off quickly? I'm trying to make Torque Fest for God's sake!!!

Have you tried Acetone. You can get a quart at Ace for a few bucks. Or go get your gal's nail polish remover and use a dab of it but don't get it on plastic or paint as it's nasty stuff where those are concerned.

There may be some other stuff out there that is better though.

There is a product called Goof-off. Usually sold in the paint department of most every hardware store.

3M general purpose adhesive remover 08984. Everyone with a car needs to have it. Works on glue, tar, oil, gum, and will remove make-up from carpet. Available at most parts stores. Just follow directions. Good luck!

MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) might dissolve it. You can get that at a hardware store, but it's extremely nasty stuff. Wear rubber gloves, & eye protection, and avoid being anywhere near an open flame. Do Not get it on your skin or anything other than the sill plates you are trying to clean up. It is a carcinogen, but it's a pretty impressive solvent.

Believe it or not, Rain-X will remove just about any adhesive from most things. I used to use it to remove adhesive from the soft windows of my Jeep. Bonus part is, when you're done, whatever you just cleaned will bead up and shed water! (I've even used it to remove adhesive from the painted surfaces of my Jeep!)

Yep X-3, Methy Ethyl Ketone = MEK Will even dissolve (etch) aluminum if left to soak too long. Nasty stuff but will dissolve almost anything including epoxies.

If you want to try something that wont try to kill you, try eucalyptus oil. Not sure how you would source it in the states, but good natural general goop remover, smells nice as well

MEK works. Just like taking gravy off your necktie.

I vote for the heat gun /puddy knife option if the glue is on metal and there are no flamables close by.
