getting axle movement when sitting still and turning steering wheel.......earlier i redid a hillegas sprint car and it looked like someone had cut a axle in half and welded the piece to the front of the axle.......the piece that got cut was from a tubular front axle and this was welded to the front of a i-beam axle. that made the front axle very strong.........has anyone else ever seen that done??

What kind of axle movement are you getting? Is the one that's moving a beam axle?

Is it just shifting on the shackles? Some of the old racers used a dead perch where the spring mounted direct to the one side, kind of a poor man's panhard bar effect.

the movement that i am getting is from the axle itself. it actually bends a little sort of like warping the axle. this is a old race car and is using 1 end of spring secured to the top of the axle and other end is set up like a slide......common for old race cars in this era...i just redid a older hilig*** sprint car and someone had cut a pc. of tubing and welded it to the front of the stock axle....at first i smiled and thought it was for early air dynamics but now realize that they must have seen the same problem.....i think i will do the same to this car and should fix the problem........thanks for the replys.........j/m

If the drag link goes to the left front wheel, and the car is not rolling, there may be a great force going to parts. Try rolling the car slowly and turn the wheel, you should see no bending then.

X2 on that side steer issue, especially with a dropped I beam. It will flex the axle when the car is not rolling. Gets more noticable with wrong offset wheels, bigger tires, etc.
