Alright, so i wired up my new ignition switch the same way my old one was wired up (or so I thought). But now my car wont start using the ignition switch. I think this is also the perpitrator behind my starter staying on. Can someone tell me where each of the wires should go. Ive got the following connections on the switch SOL - I think this is starter selenoid BAT - Battery (I have it hooked up to my regulator) IGN -Ignition. Where does this one go? Thanks for any help. After I get my car running, I think im going to have to donate some dead presidents to Ryan because without this message board I would have been screwed.
ign- should go to your coil, or a ballast resistor and then the coil, or whatever you have for an ignition setup, basically, your ignition.
I would be fairly certain that SOL is for the starter solenoid. The switch, when in the correct position, will channel power from the BAT pole to the SOL pole to energize it and kick the solenoid out. The switch should be spring loaded (of a momentary type) so that the solenoid is only energized while the ignition switch is manually held in that position. To be any more helpful and specific, we'll probably need to know what kind of starter and solenoid we're working with. Good luck man!
Here's a basic GM and Mopar diagram. Don't have a Ford available on this 'puter. "Start" on these diagrams would be Solenoid on your car. Your "Bat" wire should be fused. Mutt
Heres what i used: Load it in to a picture editing program, zoome in and erase every thing you dont need.
Alright, with the help of Jake (begborrowandsteel) we got it running and took a little drive. Man its fun drive.
