I have been looking for a nice 30-31 Model A coupe for almost a year and now have run across this 31 Vickie. Older restoration that runs and drives. Asking price is $10,500. I think it is too high myself but then I am not a Model A expert by any means. I want to make a hot rod out of it so there is a bunch here I would not use. What are the opinion of others out there about the price? Serious opinions please....

I don't know the actual market value of a car like that; but I would check out the quality of the body work, I have seen more than a few resto's with mediocre to poor work. Also, verify the condition of the wood, there is a lot of wood in a Victoria and much of it is structural.

If you had to redo either body or wood work, to meet your standards, you might be better
off in p***ing and find a Vickie body in need of resto or the coupe you have been looking for.

  6. Victorias are rarer and even neater than coupes. The price seems more than reasonable. If you really want a coupe there are plenty out there and you won't hafta chop up a perfectly good Vicky. Just sayin.

    Looks more than fair.

  8. Complete running and driving vicky with all of the vicky only parts by Henry . And a Steel back too.
Unless its a total jack wagon hack job quasi restoration,,, thats a better than fair deal.

Based on the pictures, it seems a fair price. However, pictures can be deceiving. You need to go look at it to determine value.

    Good price.
    I consider the Vickie a long-roof coupe, or a short-roof tudor.

    Ditto.

If you're doing a resto rod, then this is the way to go.

If you're choppin' & channellin' then grab a coupe body at 1/2 that price.

I've had a couple of Model A Victoria's in the past and they make great hot rods.

As someone pointed out in a previous post there is a lot of wood in these body's,including the sub rails.

If your planning a resto rod old style hot rod and are thinking about leaving it the color it already is I think the car is priced fair and the parts you wouldn't be using could be sold to off set the original purchase price,if how ever you are planning a chopped cut up car with different paint you might be better off p***ing on the Vicky,,HRP

That is a good price, there was a 31 Vicky here that I looked @ last summer for 8g and all I got was the body and frame. If that was up here I would be very interested in it!

Way cooler than a coupe for a guy like me that is 6'2"

Very fair price for a body style that's much rarer than a coupe.

If you decide to "p***" on the purchase, would you tell me how to get in touch with the seller?

Thanks for all the solid advice. Based on that, I decided to call the guy back and go look at the car. But...too late. he sold the car and even negotiated the price. Once again, if you snooze you lose. Dang!

  16. Good deals don't last & for a guy who wants a vicky that was a good deal, priced to sell and by a motivated seller.

    NO MORE NAPPING !

$10,500 is nothing to scoff at...(but I'm retired, so it seems like a lot)

But if the lower quarters, cowl, doors, and tail section aren't rusty and repaired with screens and bondo, and wood is in good shape, this is one of those rare finds.

I missed a $15 '32 Vic in '56, by 20 minutes! (no eng. or trans) and never got over it.
In years since, I have worked on a few hot-rodded Model A Vics, always wanted one.

'THAT GUY WITH THE COUPE' stated it right...'Long-roof Coupe, or Short-roof Tudor'.
I'd leave it full-fendered, bobbed rears, probably chop the top...Nerf bars...

I'll get one, but it better be quick. I'm aging fast. Still have these 'T' open cars.

no offense...............but asking here what its worth will only get you a lot of "opinions"........when you see a car and its priced fair, and you want it.........make the deal. like its said......................you snooze.....you lose

It looks like a Steel Back, and they are worth more IMO. If there isn't any poorly repaired metal in the bottom of the body and all the body wood is good that price may not be all that bad. Location is everything, if you can drive over and look at it is one thing, same car 3,000 miles away is another. If you plan on a full fender car, I'd want a good one to start on. Bob

Like everbody else said if the body is nice it's a good deal . Picture it with a deuce grille , dropped axle and Kelsey's or solids with 500/750 16's , it will be really nice ! I always see a couple that were done way back at the roadster show , I like them a lot . Too bad you missed it .

Well, I paid $140 for my steel back running car, BUT that was 1957. My Dad told my uncle I was a damn fool to pay more than $25 for any Model A. Yes, I still have it, one of the smarter things I've done.
What you have been told so far sounds correct. Lot's a wood in the vicky bodies/sub frame. This car looks pretty complete, so things like garnish moldings, rear seat, rear pan, rear fenders (vic/fordor only) seem to be there.
Next question, obviously it has been worked over. I would give a good look at the quality of work performed on it. There are up teen restorers out there who have done their own work and cosmetically the cars look great. Some did a great job, or paid a significant amount to have it done right, others have cars with shoddy work either by themselves or by others whom ripped them off.
If the car looks to have been done right I think it's a very fair price IMHO.

Jeez, that equates to a "termite palace"! I had no idea that ANY A-bone had that much lumber in it. Now, I can fully appreciate what you went through to put that body back together. DD

They used to be $200... then all the good ones got cut up for hot rods. Now the few that have not been butchered are worth a lot of money.

You might get a much better price if you can find one that is already rodded. Or, if you have to pay as much, at least it will already have the Chev engine, chrome wheels etc.

    I would think the opposite.
If it is hot rodded its going to be more money. You can buy museum like A's for 10-12 any day of the week. A hot rod basket case is 5-8k and a finished one is high teens and up

I think the Vicky will be a LOT more interesting than a coupe.

Wow! I had no idea that Vickie had that much wood in it. I learned a lot from this thread and I am glad I inquired for some opinions. FYI for anyone interested...I know where there is a second one for sale as a unfinished restoration project. The asking price is 6K. I am not interested in it since I have seen all the lumber shots posted by D-Russ. But I would p*** the info to someone who PMed me for it. It is located in northern Indiana. I have a couple pics I took of it two years ago.
