This link showed up in an email a while ago and shows what some hot rodders did in the way of building sports cars to race in the 50's The car is still around according to the story; Chuck Tatum's Tatum special. http://www.sportscardigest.com/chuck-tatum-interview-and-profile/
Just found this a little while ago while cruising the classifieds on Hemmings: http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/tatum_wayne/gmc_special/1327854.html Wish I had the cash to buy this beast.
A fellow PRC member owns it, I believe since 96? not 66 that the dealership stated, I can talk ta Chris and see exactly when it was bought. I've looked at this rolling piece of history many times at our club meetings. It is indeed a very fine ride!
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Cool. Now I have to find a copy of that issue! My new favorite sports rod (modified / special). Gary
I just got my copy of that hot rod issue, and there is another great sports rod in there, too! Bonus. And a lot of other neat cars n stuff. Gary
Yea I know it's an old post but just read the book Chuck Tatum wrote "Red Blood, Black Sand" about his time in the USMC and fighting on Iwo Jima. It's a good read and parts of it were featured in the HBO 10 part special "The Pacific" about the WWII war in the Pacific. His parts are in episode 8.
