I've been working on my '41 Plymouth for two years and I'm at least a year away from having it on the road. I never drove my 911 much anymore, so I sold it this past week with plans to buy a cruiser. This weekend I struck a deal to buy a nice '54 Chevy that will be a lot of fun this summer. It has the basic SB Chevy/700R4 drivetrain with Fatman front suspension and a Nova rear end. Vintage Air will keep the missus and me comfortable as we travel. The car should arrive early next week. I'm stoked! The first thing I will do is lower the rear of the car a little.
Nice pick up. Ditch the tint and wheels, lower the back a ton, and get some wide whites on some steelies with the cap or cover of your choice and you got yourself a good cruiser.
Wow, beautiful. What they said ^^^ about wheels, but man, you now have what we're shooting for on our Chevy, only you skipped a few steps!! Jealous.
Nice ride. I like your plan... Drive the wheels off.... AND you know what they say , If MOMMA is happy everybody is happy. Good luck and have fun, I too love the 911....
Nice ride and will be a gem after a good scrub to get that billet off. Those wheels and tint have to go and you are spot on about lowering it a bit. A car like that just does not fit on a rake. That interior is fantastic--about as clean as I have seen in awhile. Great find and if the wife is happy then I know you are!
how wide are those wheels? I maybe interested in them for my coupe. The tint is different, so I like it, but agree with the rake. I would be stoked to have such a nice car, congrats Rock
After looking at your pics a little better I would only lower it. That car was built a certain way and I would leave it. It's not traditional but so what? Who say's you can't have cars from both worlds? Build the other car trad and enjoy this one!
Rockie........I believe you made a Good Decision ..........Of course, I lik Chevies ! an, Mercs And Lincolns !! And Buicks !!! And, .................................... Smoked up, (near Oak Ridge.....Tenn.)
Not my house, Eric. . It belongs to the seller Thanks guys. I should have it by Tuesday or Wednesday. This is the first time I've ever bought a car without putting my eyeball directly on it. This guy is a classic car dealer in TN and he has sold over 200 cars on eBay with 100% positive feedback. I bought it after seeing it on his website.
Looks great.....but don't plan any modifications until Winter. "Just lowering the rear a bit" will turn into a full body off restoration and you'll have 3 cars you can't drive. Remember when you bought the Plymouth...it was "something to cruise around in while you worked on the Catalina".
You bring up a valid point, Dan, but remember the Plymouth was not in nearly as good shape as this car. I think I can lower it one Saturday morning and make a cruise in that afternoon.
It would be great if it had an air suspension that could be set lower in a few seconds. I don't know why it has so much rake. My great aunt had a beautiful blue 54 Bel Aire that she only drove in the summer. I always wanted that car. She traded it in in 1968 on a 66 Nova without telling anyone beforehand. One of my cousins and I went to the dealer to see about buying it. He said he was keeping it for himself.
"It would be great if it had an air suspension that could be set lower in a few seconds. I don't know why it has so much rake." Seller said the guy who had it built was "old school". He had air shocks put on it. Not to worry. If that is all I have to fix, I'm golden.
Engineman....There was a time when the "Rake" was intentional. California Rake, Tilt, and other names.....It was a phase like bags, Tail-Draggers and the rest....There is and was no lasting, definitive "Standard". It's all about what you like....not what others think. You can never define "Traditional".....hundreds on the HAMB have tried, and then comes another guy who remembers otherwise......It's all cool......It's about cars............
