Me and the wife (and Rascal, the wonder dog) ran up to the local hardware store today in my '55 Chevy pickup - my only transportation other than my 'project' Caddy...

Thankfully no one was injured, and the damage to my truck was mostly limited to the right fender and headlight trim. The hood and front bumper got s****ed up good but they'll survive, but the fender is FUBAR - partly due to ****py prior repairs.. full of holes and covered with fibergl*** and bondo 1/2 inch thick.

Took it off and beat it back into shape good enough to drive till I can find a replacement. It'll work but it does look like ***.

Anybody got a 55-57 Chevy truck fender laying around???

This is happening all too often lately. Hope it wasn't your fault and that it gets a new fender rather quickly.

Just texted him to let him know. Can you mail it to him? I think Vern was going to Beatersville. Cool name by the way!

Ha ha thanks guys. I was trying to pull out of the hardware store parking lot - traffic had stopped in both directions to let a few cars out of the city park across the street. I looked left, then right, then eased out. BAM - the guy on the left had decided he wasn't waiting anymore.

The guy stopped and we decided to each take care of our own vehicle. He had minor damage other than a flat tire on the trailer (I think that's whaat my bumper hit)

There was an ambulance behind the truck - I guess the driver was bored because he called the cops, the fire department, and I'm surprised the Marines didn't show up. The driver of the truck split before the cops got there - I think he was illegal...

Anyway, what's ****ed up is I end up getting a ticket for 'due care' whatever that is. The cop said he hated to do it but it was 'policy'.

Drag on the damage report. Insulting for the 'man' to ticket the deal. But, do not be surprised if the HAMB police show up on this thread. They's bored too.

Got the fender off and whooped on it with a BFH - got it straightened out enough so that I can drive it until I get a replacement - looks like my Detroit brothers have hooked me up!

I did a quick google search, looks like it might be the half brother of a wreckless driving citation, just not as severe. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Up here its called "undue care and attention" which is a polite way of saying "careless diving"...if ya look in my junkpile pics in albums,(by clicking my my profile) you will see the fender you need peeking out from under the hoods...PM me if ya need it although shipping may be a *****...glad nobody was hurt

  17. Any time your vehicle hits something, and you are in control of it, chances are good that you failed to meet your legal obligation to control your vehicle. Every state has their own version, and name for it, but, if you hit anything; whether you want to call it an accident or whatever, you have still failed to follow the law. Most of the time these laws aren't used, but, they are on the books.

"Due care" sounds to me like he failed to exercise "due care" in the control of his vehicle. Not saying I agree, or that I think it should have been written up, just saying, that's what the books say.

Well that ****s..and for the cops to add insult to injury, I guess thats to be expected..they never let a good crisis go to waste,
anyway..maybe now the new fender wont have to weigh half as much as the truck, hopefully the replacement fender wont need as much filler

  23. HAHAHAHA! That's EXACTLY what I told Gator it looked like Sunday. Glad I'm not the only sicko around here:cool:

Ticket ****s, but here in NC if you show up early sometimes the ADA will change it so it doesn't hurt you with your insurance company. Glad you and the Mrs. are alright.

"Due care" amount to, you didn't tackle the illegal driver so they could write a real ticket, for real revenue...so they took it out on you... Sorry for your day, hope you get it replaced soon.

    Yeah, you did - hahaha.

Yeah, when I called the court clerk to see how much the fine was ($112) We got to talking about what happened. She insisted I come to court instead of just paying the ticket. She said the Judge would likely throw it out or at least reduce it. The fine's bad enough but then they take 3 points off your license and report it to your insurance company.

You just might be able to convince them it was a "hit and run" which it pretty much was since the other guy didn't hang around.

I think part of the problem is they have a lot of rookie 'young guns' who are out to prove themselves. Someone told me the young woman they just hired has written enough tickets to pay her salary for the year - and this is a small town... We got a new Chief coming in, I'm really hoping things will get better.

Anyways, I finally went to court on my deal last week. I started telling the Judge what happened and he actually just kind of sat there shaking his head and staring at me in disbelief. He dismissed the charges and waived the fine and even the court cost (which is unusual).
