I believe those panels in the deck lid area are spot welded in as well as bolted. When I took mine out I vaguely remember them bing spot welded.

Flop, My rumble hinge panels were bolted to the panel below the trunk, rivited to the subrail and the rain gutter support, and spot welded to the panel that attaches the rain gutter to the quarter panel. I took a chisel to the spots and ended up trashing the small pieces that attach the rain gutter as they were almost rusted away. I couldn't get at the back to take them off so I trimmed them back to the existing panels. Now I have to make new pieces and spot weld them back in from the front.

Just checked the factory original I have and it was a bolt in, no spots to the quarters. Bob

thanks everyone . spots welds rivets screws you name it ... it was holding it in place!!

but those triangular braces were spot welded to the body . i really dont know how they were installed from the factory . i couldnt get a wrench socket vice grips etc on the bolts holding them in .

and everyone thinks build cars is pretty welds and metal work ...

not when your crouched in the car grinding heads off of 80 year old screws to get panels out .

first time the body has been on the rails. gonna get the wheel base squared away then body is back off.also depends if Ralph likes the way the body fits the frame we may push the frame out to contour to the body .

    thanks guys!

ralph wanted to us a model A rear crossmember . and i hate when people stick the wedge between the crossmember and the frame . heres my solution...cut the hell out of it

now i gotta fill in the blanks and we will have a crossmember that looks like it was made for a 32 frame!

Thats why you are building my frame. A new approach to something that has been done a thousand times over. Your work is killer.

Very nice. Any shots from behind showing the top and the back of the crossmember? I'd like to see what the finished product looks like after cutting the top of the sides to raise them to the frame rails..

    thanks folks !

mr speed i will get your pics dont worry !!

got the engine sitting in the frame today . sitting about an inch to high but you can grab a general idea from this .i always want to put things in place before i set crossmembers for some reason . yeah you can measure a million times but it doesnt replace seeing the motor sitting in the car.

started on some motor mounts today ! i want the motor to sit higher up then the usual 31 roadster with a flathead .

heres what i came up with .

well the orig template was too short . but i loved the shape so i cut it to give me the length i need

how it will sit ontop of the frame

and with the underside tacked in !!

there will be a riser ontop of the flat mount to push the biscuit up thus keeping the motor where it sits now . it will be tig welded and smoothed on top of the rails and rivited where the 4 circles are .
