love this thread. do you have to stop the vinegar's attack with any thing other than a water rinse? ive been wondering about it for a while.
Some guys have all the fun... Wife very happy over the newcomer I suppose? If NOT tell her it's gonna be her new toy when it's done, could hold her of Your back for awhile... Nah seriously : Very good work and I suppose the next one will be atleast as good as the first, keep it up...
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I seem to be taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. I used vinegar on the backing plates for this project, I would not do that again. It eats the base metal as well as the rust.
I have started work on the doors, much to do here. The 4dr doors are taller than stock 32 5w doors so they need to be cut down in hieght. Once cut they unformtunately don't just fall into place! I heated the front curve witha torch and gently pulled them down. The right side worked out a bit better than the left although the process used was the same. On the left the curve inner curve will require a little bondo, the right looks perfect as is.
Lower patch panel was a originally a flat panel and did not fit well. I wheeled it to match the original factory curve and tacked in place. It winds up being 1/4 inch to lonaf as the are forder doors. The ends were rebent to the correct length. Mike
Mike, very impressive lower door verticle gap in pic one, with door shut all the way. Maybe some readers that don't do this stuff might not know how bad that can get with a major rebuild. Nice.
Mike, You obviously have alot of metal experince, And are very talented in your trade. I love this build, You make it look easy, I can not help but think of all the old tin I passed on in the last 8 to 10 years that, By todays standards were very buildable. That 3 window you just got Should be a fun project, I almost bid again on it but come to the conclusion I just did not need it right now. I can see that it went to the right guy.
Way beyond impressive ... talk about a sows ear & a silk purse ... Fantastic save so far - I'm gassed with your dedication to wanting a '32. PACO
Mike I found your radius plate. I'll ship it to you tomarrow. Wow I'm still recovering from my "vacation" lol Jeff
Ok here's a few more pic's , more on the repair of the rear qtrs. I made a dolly or form that matched the curve on the qtr belt. I did not take a picture (unfortunately) but the piece I started with had a slight break in , perhaps 25-30 degrees. From the break the part curves and here is where i used the dolly. to get the overall curve was made with a shrinker
Made a couple qtr triangle supports. Fortunately I had i an old one to pull a pattern from. Used a wood buck as a pattern , the raised section was made with a thin piece of metal cut to size and traced with a corking tool.
Haha. I was just about to say thanks! I shamedly have not worked on my car in over 60 days. But, I am fully qualified & experienced in building tile showers & floors as well as sprinkler systems & wells. F@&k my life! All kidding aside, keep posting your progress, Im taking notes!!! Looks great! Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
Looking good ... I am going to purchase some stock in "Vice-Grip". With all your fab work I figure I can probably triple my investment!!! Keep up the good work ... and buy more vice-grips - please. PACO
