Got sliced and diced on Monday, looks like about an 8" cut.I've heard everything from 4-6 weeks of doing damn near NOTHING,to I'll be fine in a week or two.Hell, even the doc laughed, said he didn't know.He did give me a nice warning about tearing this shit up again,if I wasn't careful. Anybody had this done? How long til I don't have to worry about fucking it up?Not trying to be stupid here, kinda thought the doc could give me a better idea of what to do or not to do.Can't sit on my ass for long, got a bike shop to run.... On the plus side,Percocets are my new best friends.............
Lower one right? I healed up in about 3 weeks. Enough to do regular work. You'll be sore for a while, but they stitch up reienforcement in there. Enjoy the meds. sparky
I had 3 nut surgery about 5 or 6 years ago left side.I had mine done in Indy at a special out patient center.I was up and going in about ten days at work at my desk,Bout 3 or 4 weeks later everything back to normal.I agree on the sore part.I had about a 6 or 8 inch incesion years later cant even tell. hope this info is helpful. Shoe
I had it done 2 years ago. I waited for 2 years to have it done, which wasn't a real smart decision. It didn't rupture, but it came pretty close. I was back on my feet and behind the wheel after 7 days, but Dr's orders were not to lift anything over 35 lbs for 3-4 weeks. Did you know you can actually get a hernia from trying to force a "scared turtle" out? You know, the kind where you grab onto the handi-crapper rails with all your might and give it hell? Any kind of excessive physical exertion can trigger one. The scars aren't too bad. Thanks to my Italian blood, my partial sweater vest covers it pretty well. I tell the ladies I got it in a knife fight, they're usually impressed by it. If I get the impression that they won't be, I tell them i donated some organ to save a starving Guatamalan child with 1 leg. My future carrer as a dick model is shot, but be resourceful and the scars can pay off nicely Percoset is the shit
I just toughed it out for a couple years...never had the surgery. Cold weather and lifting are definate no-nos...but you can James Brown it ("Living With a Hernia"!) if you don't mind a little bit of pain for the first 18 months or so...after that, you kinda get used to it.
I think it was about 2 weeks for me before I could go back to routine activity (walking/driving, etc.) without walking funny! It was prolly 6 months before I got to the point where I didn't hafta really think about stuff (lifting, pushing, taking a hard dump, etc.) before I went through with whatever I was about to do.
I had that about 13 years ago, mine was between my waist and the crease in my leg, i.e. lower abdomen. My experience was that it was real sore and any stretching of your body would hurt, so I walked all hunched over like a little old man! Do not watch any TV that makes you laugh, or try not to sneeze, either one hurts like hell. Tylenol #3 was my friend, I took one every two hours instead of the four hours you are supposed to wait. I didn't have internet at that time, so at least you can keep a little occupied. All I had was worthless daytime TV and not many channels, that shit will rot your brain, no redeeming value of any type. I did drive my car to the bank couple miles from my house after three days, had to deposit a check or two, even though I was not supposed to. After six days I was actually out in the garage doing work on my car, but going from the floor to standing up was hard. I went back to work (desk job) after one week at home and just took it easy, I was bored sick at home. In general after three days i felt OK, just sore, but no big pain like the first couple days. My scar was about 5 inches long and now I can barely see it after time of 13 years. I certainly pushed things more than my doc said to do, but as long as you do not abuse it and rip the stitches, doing activities helps it heal up by getting the blood flow in that area. Just do not do anything that makes sharp pain, that means you are too far. Dull pain or sore is OK, that is part of the healing process. Just make friends with your pain meds
Thanks, guys, for the info.It sucks to feel helpless, even for just a little while. The best part is rereading a ton of old 50s mags that I haven't read in a while...Now,I REALLY want to get back out to the garage...
I had a surgury that I feel mustve went wrong - thought hte doctors said it went right - It's been over 3 years - and it still bugs me from time to time - pisses me off. Also - for initial recovery - took about a month before I was doing stuff again - but even way after that (into 4 months or more) the wound was still there and could do anything strenuous. Vowed that next time - I go somewhere and get it done in a place where they specialize on this type of thing. (was going to go to Toronto for that, but didn't - I regreat it.) But hey - all good right now not to scare you - just venting - fucking ex hernia of mine.
had mine done about7 years ago theyhad to take 2foot of intestine out as well ,wasent serposed to drive for about a month but had to drive my 100e backfrom the paintshop on the third week ,got made redondent the dayi had my opp,so had to start a new job on the third week as well ,never minde all`s well now ,made loads of little model rods with the spare time lol had a house full of `em
Man, I hope you fell better soon. Be sure you learn how to lift stuff properly to protect the work you had done. I always tell my surgery patients not to lick their incisions-which I think is good advice. Course they're dogs---
If I could lick myself in that general area,I wouldn't miss my 'wife' so much. And I don't even look like a porn star ( well, there's several reasons for that),since they only shaved me on one side
I ruptured my abdomen in january this year,,, umbilical hernia. bout the same pain as "blowin a nut wall" they said. this was the second time i blew the bitch out. first time they sewed my muscle back to the facia (that long piece of gristle in the center of your abdomen) and that weakend over time due to the scaring. second time i did it (this last winter) they used a reinforcing mesh. kinda like fiberglass cloth for *gasp* bodywork. it hurt like hell for about a week, then after only when i tried to lift anything heavier than a can of brew. took about a month to be able to go back to work again. keep in mind one thing about surgury. the scar on the outside of your skin is a good indicator of how things are healing on the inside. take it REAL easy on that area till the bright red scar fades into light pink and eventually to pale skin color. my doc told me thats how you know the inside is healed up completely. good luck, take plenty of pain pills, and ferchrysake dont lift any motors for the time being,
