I just ran into a 59 Edsel Ranger 4-door about three hours ago! Well, I didn't really run into it. It was at a salvage yard here in NC. Poor thing. Not much left worth saving body-wise.

  6. Did the guy that owned the wagon here have a shoe repair business? If he didn't he should have because he would have made a fortune the way he cobbled stuff!:rolleyes: That engine swap is one of the easist to do and the pictures show part lazy part dumbass but at least it's in the hands of somebody that will make it correct so keep the pic's coming of your cool wagon.

  12. Yes sir, my Great Grandfather came over from Sweden in 1904 on the Ivernia, lost a brother at sea on the way over to Boston. I got to hear the whole story when I was about 10 and never forgot it. Moved to Chicago and became a Borden milkman and drove cool trucks for a living. I've always had a strong love of old Saabs, good woodwork, and anything with lingonberries on it :D

Oh, and Edsels! I guess those are Swedish now, too :)

Sounds like a true Swede to me - especially the lingonberries :)

Is this transmission similar to that of a 57 mercury? The car I am buying has no park. My mechanic friend said it may just be the rod. that goes from the columm to the tranny. I think the last pishnutton tranny for edsel was 58.. Am I worng? I live in america but I love that shirt if you are selling them. I am of german american but I guess we all love the late 50s stuff. It makes me sad to see them go but the internet bring it all together..

I don't know the exact answer to your question - but I reckon the C6 somehow in many ways merely is a upgraded 3speed Cruise-O-Matic...

I spotted the Edsel shirt at an exhibition - it was an original just made in one copy and not for sale

I think you are spot on about the Internet bringing all us 50s-lovers together

    Thats funny,
I just yesterday cleaned up my rear axle and painted it. My son had scrapped the chunky stuff off last winter, and I finished cleaning it. Except I was laying on my back with my car on 2 sets of jack stands.

    My seal is also leaking.
I dont know if I have ever removed a rear yoke or not. I have some pullers in my garage, but I dont think they will work for it.
Do they have to torque down or do they fit against a seat when put back on?

I tried to loosen the locknut, and much to my surprise it hadn't been properly torqued but was rather easy to remove ...

Furthermore I was able to remove the flange with my bare hands!

So besides the poor fastening of the motor and tranny, I guess there must be something failing on this axle too?!

So very, very easy to remove...

Put the flange back after some cleaning

Loosened the retainer so the oil could pour out (I have no proper square tool for the drain plug ... )

All parts seems to be there, right?

Im planning on leaving the front plate and just replacing the seal. do you see any reason why I couldnt do that?
that yoke being loose doesnt sount right. :\

1st reason is the seal is really stuck and the pinion shaft is in the way (no room for any pullers...) 2nd reason is that the operation removing the retainer front plate is quite an easy task (the hardest part was supposed to be removing the flange) Just be careful not damaging the shim(s) ;)

Fits bad :( Needs to move backwards or be modified to fit…

In order to be able to use the original cross member holes in the frame I decide to make a cut:

    Now - that's better

For clarification: I’m fully aware the cut maybe has made the cross member somewhat weaker to horizontal back-/forward movements, but hardly for other strain and that it still ought to be sufficient for it’s purpose. The material I chose to weld back was 5mm gauge.

Working on the trans mount. The idea is to move the holes 45mm further back to fit the C6 tranny.

Now it fits just fine along with the rubber modified by the previous owner/builder :)

Managed to turn the cross member black and shiny as well
