Looks like Corvair. I recall they had a rear bracket going up to the frame like that. I wish I could see the crossmember better, as it was a bolt in. M2 was welded to sheetmetal.
thanx FJ. Another guy mentioned it may be corvair aswell. I just want to confirm and narrow down a year if possible and yes it is bolted in and has a strut rod like original mustang 2 but instead of it going to the frame of the car the crossmember has its own tab where it bolts to.
Here's one for sale on HAMB http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=647114&highlight=corvair Looking at steering arms in photo, they suit a rear steer application and not a front steer application. Arms where tie rod attaches should be closer to tyre to mainatain Ackerman angle, something you need to consider if doing a swap.
The only Corvair front end I bought was back in 70 or so. Back then, we were told to get one from a Corvair pickup or van to get the 5 lug drums. I have no idea if the very last Corvair "car body" still had 4 lugs or not. So, I have no idea on how to tell the years, but other than lug patterns, they may be all the same from 60 to 68/9 when they stopped making them. Maybe look on Clarks Corvair in Mass, to see if balljoints and other parts are different by year? BTW, the Corvair steering arms are bolt on, and switchable from side to side, to have rear steer. There used to be aftermarket shorter "quick steer arms".
