rusty-2-not so rusty chrome

    On another thread about Using white vinegar to remove rust a member asked about using white vinegar to remove on some old side pipes,i responded with a link to another thread -

    well i finally decided to actually help out here :D & went to Ace Hardware & bought a tub of Oxalic Acid {wood bleach}cost me $10.09
    here's some real time pictures,

    #1.are of the untouched parts-some car {Hudson}& some chopper parts since i'm going to post pictures there too.

    I also decided to throw a old carb in the mix to see what would happen???
    here the tub acid,45 minutes later the acid/water mix is 'green'

    The pipes are soaking right now in the white bleach - guess I'll let them soak over nite. The brackets turned out great - had them soaking in the white vinegar.

    in your thread,the link i posted-a guy said 18 hrs-mine have been sitting for almost 2 hrs-chuck

    P/S i realize the hemi valve cover is not chrome but what could it hurt??

    update---after 5 hrs everything is still looking the same,

    well even after 24hrs not much changed,i think 5-7hrs is going to be the best-since nothing changed after that,
    {this is at 1tbs per gallon of water}
     
  8. That's not really a high concentration. Suppose its all experiments but the package says quite a bit more for its intended purposes.

    yeah,i thought about mixing it stronger,but ran out of ideas what to put in the tote.can't put a bumper it or a wheel--i'm looking for a BIGGER tub to put stuff in for next time----chuck

    Well my lake pipes soaked for about 36 hours and turned out great - better than I expected.

    Build a wood crate and line it with thick landscaping plastic...then you can "dip" large parts...

    Was the green the zinc coating from the carb coming off?

    I wouldn't put aluminum in there. Steel and iron no problem.
