I put a 52 Buick grille in my 56 Pontiac a while back and currently the teeth are just sort of crimped on to a plain steel frame. Can I put some small tack welds on em to keep them in place a little more securely? Any sort of fastener would show so that's out. I have a TIG, MIG, and oxy/acetylene but haven't ever tried to weld stainless.
    Thanks
    Johnny

Done it a million times. Use tig and stainless rod. For real small tacks I use stainless safety wire for rod.

Yes, in a pinch MIG steel wire will work, but I would tig it with stainless rod

treb11 said it. 309L is the best for ss to mild steel
since you havent welded stainless before. practice first, stanless can be kinda tricky as compared to mild steel. you cant put as much heat into it. so you will have to weld heavy on the mild steel side and pull your weld onto the stainless.

Thanks fellas! I just need a wee little tack on each one so it doesn't fall out. Safety wire sounds good for filler as well! Plenty of that around the hangar here at work.
