    Steve-
Thanks again for the generosity! As I said in the PM to you, you will never ride in the sedan. But you will drive it!

That is the least I can do for the people who don't know me and yet are so generous. You guys have given parts and time and asked for nothing in return. That is very humbling. The list of "drivers" is growing but that is the least I can do to repay you guys.

I have never forgotten the day I drove Pete's '32 3 window. It was my first experience in a hot rod and I hope driving the sedan will be a memorable experience for some of you.

I know I've said this before and it won't be the last time either.
    THANKS EVERYONE!!!!

  2. What a great attitude!!
I'm part of the generation (I'm 48) that just missed the era when these cars were readily available and affordable for the common guy. From the time I started getting into cars, I've always wanted one. I've owned Chevelles, Novas, GTOs, classic Chevy trucks, a few early Camaros, but never anything older than a 1955. Nowdays, the cars I cut my teeth on are out of the reach of the younger hotrodders, much like I experienced with the early Fords. Rick and I have had the conversation on how it's important for each generation to ensure that they don't shut the door on each other. Rick has introduced me to a few guys who are into the early stuff and they have been phenominal. No egos, no attitudes, no looking down on somebody because he doesn't know as much as they do. These guys are just regular dudes, and it's been an honor to meet them.

Owning an early Ford is on my "bucket list", and helping out on this build has been a great way to meet awesome people and to learn even more about a car I've wanted since I was a kid.

All I was hoping for was just a ride in the '32. Getting a chance to actually drive it will probably ruin me. I'll get home and put all my fleet up for sale!!

I hate to tell you but i betcha you will have to do a valve job on those heads before you fire this motor.Maybe one of them fancy 3 angle valve jobs or at least a 2 1/2 degree.I do like the detail of painting the spark plugs and not painting the engine.HAHA Seriously i have been watching the build and love it.I was hoping to have my project on the road already but maybe this fall.I hope you bring it out east somewhere for us overhere.Keep up the great work and hope you have as much fun with this car as you did the first one.

    Istwsh-
I am not sure when, but I think it will be going to Pete & Jake's sometime after it is finished and they will be taking it to some events. I am not able time wise to go all the places that I would to take the sedan to but I will figure out how to get it to other parts of the country for others to see. I will be in Boston in July and am trying to figure out if it makes sense to ship the car there or not.

The fun for me is not to own a car and let it sit in the garage. The fun is in sharing it with others.

For the past 30 years I have been going to schools sharing my cars with children and I hope to continue this with the sedan. Picture this, the sedan towing my original '13 T touring. I can't wait!

  6. Rick, let me know if you or Pete will be coming over to Pete & Jakes with the car. I'll schedule a "work trip" up to St Joseph, to swing by and catch up with you. That takes me right through Peculiar!

Rick that is really great.Hopefully some kid 30 years from now will remember his experience seeing this car and wanting to duplicate it.That is great you let the kids enjoy your cars.I would love to see your T being towed behind the sedan.I sure Pete and Jake's will take the car to one of the events around here.Thanks.

Steve- Are any of the cars pictured your '32?

You've got some cool stuff especially the license plate frame. I believe that Lions was started by another Bradbury resident, Mickey Thompson.

Steve- what a great looking roadster! I noticed on another thread you have some other Lion's memorabilia. It's hard to believe it closed 40 years ago in 1972. Are you a SoCal defector?????

Does anyone have a lead on original outside door handles in fair to good condition. The repops just look new and as we all know, this car never looked new!

  12. RICK.....take a fine 3M pad to the new handles, it'll dull the finish a bit.

When I got home today there was this pilates ring box on the porch. Oh great I thought. Who ordered this crap! My wife said,"you did". Then I noticed the paperwork on the box. What a relief! It was the fan from Steve.
NOS is an understatement. It even has the washers and instructions attached!
Just read a PM from mac3236. The handles on on their way!
    Thanks guys!!!

Rick & Pete, Just spent the last couple of evenings reading this thread, what a delight! I got involved with cars in the late 50's, early 60's and have been messing with them ever since. I recall seeing the original article about the sedan and remember thinking these guys still build cars the old fashioned way that I had learned to build mine, always roaming junk yards, swapping parts with buddies, helping each other with whatever skills we had. Your thread has resurrected that attitude and comraderie and my hat is off to you guys for doing this for the younger generations. I hope every young HAMB member will see this and learn from it, especially that the cars should be built to have fun with and not just to be shown off on special occasions. Thanks for reviving a lot of good memories for me and good luck with the finish of the build.

PS: if you have any shirts left I would like to order some.

    Malcolm-
Thanks for the post. I agree that the younger generations need to see how we "Old School" guys did it. Oh wait if I want the younger guys to be involved it should be "Old Skool":D.

Anyway, if anyone would like a shirt just let me know that you mailed a check for $20.00 and I'll send it out the same day. I only have some L, XL, XXL left.
They will pass each other in the mail. Believe it or not, I have not been burned by a single HAMBER doing it this way. Try that on any other web site!

Here are more pictures of the headers as they are being built. All that's left is the collector and then we can do the exhaust pipes and mufflers.

Tom said to say hi. Are you coming down father's day? We should ALL get together.

Back to the sedan. The collectors did not show up today. Lost in transit. Just a little delay....again. Time is getting short but I'm sure we'll put a big push soon. I am getting anxious to take it all apart, blast it and paint it.

Sorry about your arm. I didn't realize Sally was so tuff.:D
I think almost everyone out there who has had other people work on their cars have been disappointed at one time or another. It's all part of the hobby. Sad but true!

That would be an interesting thread. How I got (fill in the blank) by hiring someone to do work for me.

That body sure looks nice and solid. It also looks like my favorite color.

Thanks again for the door handles. The shirt is going out tomorrow.

Hey Rick, yeah Sally and a rolling pin meeting my arm, bad combo. Your right about writing a story "How I got XXXXXX by hiring someone to do my work" Oh well Doc says 6-8 weeks with a cast, so I guess car will be on hold for awhile. Keep up the great work on yours tho.

I must say, Bobby Walden did all my work in a week. Just like he said he would!

Here are the finished collectors. Note the rolled indentation where the 4 tubes go in. Typically, collectors are not made that way any more. I think I found the correct mufflers. I'll know later today.

  29. Those headers look awesome. Are you going to paint them or have them coated? If you're going to have them coated (Cerma-chrome), we deal with a guy here in the Desert who has a good selection of colors (black, silvers, grays, and shiny). He's good friends with Brad, and he'll give you a good price.

    Alex-
With trying to stay as accurate and period correct as I can, I will be blasting them and spray bomb them with flat black VHT just like we did then. Back then it was the only choice.
