I built this car and I am chasing a problem that is driving me crazy. It revs up perfectly with no load on the motor but holds back when gettin on it down the road, It has a 440 with a 727 trans, Weiand tunnel ram with 2 AFB 500 cfm carbs on it. Timing is set at 38deg full advance, It has head work done on it has a Comp cams hyd bump stick and 9:1 comp ratio. I have changed the fuel pump, rebuilt the carbs (Fattened them up in the process) still same results. It comes out of the hole ok then it starts pop a little out of the exhaust and feels like it's holding back. If I play with the throttle it starts to come up on the rpms them finally gets goin. Any suggestions???
I had a SBC with same problem I tried everything I could think of it turned out it was a leak in the fuel suction line. It didn't leak under normal driving and showed no signs when I put a small amount of pressure in the tank I found the leak tightened the fitting and cured the problem also check for colapsing rubber hoses cutting off the flow on the suction side of the fuel pump
Thank you,Found that the fuel hose from fuel cell to the hard line was collapsed where it made the turn towards the front of the car. It's better, but not quite right yet!!
