It might be rebuildable-are you you close to a big city? If so,check your Yellow pages under auto repair. Or talk to some oldtimers who have been down that road. Post on the Ford Barn-there has been a recent query along the same lines; I just don't remember the answer. if all else fails, I can give you the phone numbers of a couple people in my area who could probably rebuild it. I'm in Indy.
All Star Automotive 4150 Puente Avenue, Baldwin Park, CA (626) 960-5164 () ‎ Had one on their shelf for $55, ready to go, when I was looking for one about a year or two ago.
Napa and Rockauto have a reman in their catalogs. If you want new, you might try green sales co, you will need to find the Ford part number, but they where cheaper for a new one then getting the one for my 215 rebuilt.
Rock Auto has them, I just checked and they had the in stock according to their web site for $92. The other I checked and they said they would rebuild you core. I don't know if they changed their policy. Van Pelt Sales has the flat six water pumps listed at $149 PLUS a $35 core charge http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/engine-partsprices-pg4.htm Google "0HA-8501", you find quite a few web sites.
Thank you for the replies and advice. Do to the difficulty of finding parts, i have decided to go with a small block chevy. This weekend i took off the front clip getting ready to pull motor and transmission. Would anybody be interested in the it or should s**** it out?
That's a shame.....those are great old motors. Please don't s**** it, put it on the cl***ifieds here or at least craigslist.
I agree, the old flat sixes are tough as hell. IMO, they are a lot better engine than the eights, just not as ***y. They're only 5 less hp power and were used a lot for cicle track racinging. In the day there was quite a bite of Hi-po parts for them. A while back I could pick the flat sixes up for free but lately they've gained a little desire amoung the old Ford truck guys. Post the engine over on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts' site. www.ford-trucks.com There's a '48-56 forum, make sure you post it in the cl***ifieds, they don't like ads in the general forum.
I am located in Willis, Tx. It is about 60 miles north of Houston. Not going to s**** it just yet. Pulling it out this weekend and will post next week.
try kanter auto in boonton new jersey...they'll have one....$102.74 for the pump and $89.00 core deposit. 973-334-9575
