I know I didn't want to go Craftsman but Sears ****ed me in! I was wasting some time tonight and wandering around the tool dept at the local Sears. Next thing I know I'm standing in front of their very small automotive speciality tool section when I see a bright and shiny sign. "SALE" flashed thru my brain time and time again. I kept telling myself "It's only $15.00 dollars off". I turned away and started to head towards the big freakin TVs when a voice came from above "Good afternoon, Sears customer, stop by our tool department and buy any Craftsman tool and receive a FREE 2012 Craftsman calander when you become a Craftsman Club member!" Wow, I'm a Craftsman CLub member, I need a 2012 calander, I want 10% off special offers! Yep, they got me. I bought the digital professional (if craftsman makes such a thing) model. It tells your rpm, advance, can double as a flashlight, and sounds an alarm when the kids or wife is coming towards the shop! OK, maybe not that last one but I can use it to blind them while I make it out the back door!
I'll report back on how it works out as long as I keep it hid and my brother (lowelife) don't get his hands on it before I get to use it!!!
Flaming river self powered. Works on magnetos and you don't need to drag the cables across the fan to hook to the battery. Not that any of us have done that.
I was all set to buy one of these from F.R. at last Fall Carlisle. The rep handed me one, I was all set to pay him, and that's when I noticed it was made in China. No Sale!
IIRC my craftsman worked just fine on a 6 volt system, if not you could just grab a spare battery to power it if necessary.
My Snap On was the best but it died after only 35 yrs of service[what a piece of ****] My son got me a Craftsman for my birthday and it quit the first time that I used it. Took it back and they gave me a new one and it quit a short time later. I blamed it on the MSD but I went to Autozone and bought a $49.95 light and it works fine. GOT to have a timing light and a va***e guage is good, but not good enough! What? you work on a guys car and he asks you what the timing is set at and you tell him 4 inches?
I know I could use a extra battery but sometimes it's a pain especially if no 12volt source is handy. That's how I have been doing it.
Estate sale; Snap-On timing lite from the 60's, $5.00 S/W wing guages with a 150 MPH speedo, $10.00, Hug from the little old lady that knew her husband's stuff would be loved,,,,, you know.
They are all made in China no matter what the brand name??? And so are these computers we're using I picked up a new in the box Proform self powered timing light for short money at a garage sale. Put in two new batteries and the thing appeared to work well enough.....until I reved the engine to check total advance. The light cuts out at about 1200 rpm....Probably the battery power can't keep up? Piece of **** as usual.... My old Penske light makes the engine misfire,my fancy dial back tachometer timing light works when it wants to....Back to setting timing by lining up timing marks and checking the opening of the points.
