OK, I've been lurking long enough to know that no intro would be proper without pics. I've been a member of Flatheaders Online for a few years w/ the handle 'Flatiron'. Seems that some enterprising devil has hijacked my handle here, or perhaps he suffers from the same lack of originality as I. Here's a couple pics of my '32 PU. I'll post all the B.S. about me later, in case anyone is having trouble sleeping and needs to read something certain to induce a coma. Before In progress After, sort of... Screwed this up the first time trying to use MSN pics, maybe this'll work.
OK, a little info: Stats on ride: 32 Ford pickup. Body all orig except for cheap steel grille shell. Pickup originally bought by my Dad in the Sixties, from somewhere between T.O. and Mammoth Mountain- location sworn to secrecy. Nope, not done with the fenders and hood yet- theyre in my garage where some folks say they should stay. Yep, its a driver. 276 cu in flattie, T-5 ******, 9 rear from a 68 Bronco. 40s juice brakes and 4 drop axle up front, but Im using the original spring with all leaves cause the roads here ****- Lotsa $$$ in my Williamson county and they cant fix the flippin roads. In back- coilovers and triangulated P&J 4-bar cause it rides good and you guessed it the roads here ****. Vega type steering- cause it handles quick for dodging soccer moms and drunken rednecks. If youve ever driven through here, you know what I mean- duck and cover. Motor has old Edelbrock SU-359 3x2 intake with progressive link on 97s, factory relieved block, Offy heads, and a cam thats pretty much a beefed-up Winfield SU-1A with slightly more lift and duration but same overlap. Got lucky and found some original Fenton headers. Converted generator to 12V neg ground, running a Mallory electronic distributor. Yes Virginia, there is a Mallory electronic that works. Stop reading now and save yourself from death by boredom Too late hoss! Like my ride, I am originally from SoCal but have lived in Mid Tennessee near Nashville for a few years. Think Beverly Hillbillies in reverse. Life in general and especially the people (except for driver types mentioned above) are awesome in Mid TN, but dont tell anyone- theyll all start moving here and screw it up worse than I did. Like Oregon, we have our share of SoCal ex-pats. If you do come here, there is one thing you must never forget: dont believe the guy that says when the moonshine burns clear blue its really smooth and you wont get a hangover. As an idiot newbie to Tennessee I believed that ******** and of course the next morning I sold more Buicks than Tiger Woods. When Im not thrashing the pickup Im in a martial arts studio because its about peace, harmony, and flogging 20-somethings until theyre as old and ugly as I am. Hey, how old are you? Just kidding Great board- lots of knowledge. Hope sometime I can help someone out based on my limited experience. Come grab a seat in the garage, have a cold brew, and let me tell you a story about my Rottweiler, a metal detector, and the neighbor ladys missing gold cross. There you go- If youre not already asleep just try to read it again. Cheers, Flat*******
Welcome from Huntsville Alabama. Quite a few hamb members in Tenn and several in the nashville area. I think you will fit in fine. what did you do with that funny looking engine that you replaced with the flathead? ...Bobby..
Hey, Thanks for the welcome. I've probably met some Hambers a long time ago at a local cruise- I recall two flat-powered cars owned by 'Andy' and 'Sparky'- seems like they would have fit in here better than me. Good to know that there are a few Hamb types in the mid-TN area. Have been traveling quite a bit for work and for fun, or I might have stopped by the Saginaw show just to look around. That funny little Rocket is unfortunately long gone. They were dime a dozen when it was pulled shortly after the pic was taken around late '69. Dad probably gave it to a friend or swapped for parts.
