im working on a 1942 chevy truck, it has a 2002 s10 front clip and a ford 9", im looking for some place to get an airbag system that i can pump up and dump in the truck, that way when i pull into a show or a parking lot and dump the bags and drop the frame rails to the ground (or close)so ill obvously need bag/ shock combinations for all four corners, plus a switch or control panel for the interior also i dont want to use the stock boring air tanks that would come with the kit, instead i want to take and put 2 15lb nitrous oxide bottles in the bed and they will act as the compressed air tanks (just to make people scratch their heads)... any hints, tips, company names, anything i can use to help me get started would be greatly appreciated
thanks yetiskustoms ill try that one too, slickhale do you know if sucicidedoors.com is going out of business? their sold out of virturally everything
They dont seem to stock much, i think most stuff is fabbed as needed. As far as i know they're still going strong but i havent ordered from them in years. Good quality stuff if you can get it. Airbagit.com is ch***is tech/aim industries-do a search....its bad.
asking for info on non-traditional stuff so, go where you can find it like: s10forum.com this type of suspension and deals on parts are available there and mys10.com.
Suicide doors is still going strong, but you'll wait 6 months for anything that needs to be fabbed, and they don't stock many shelf parts any more. They also changed their name to quality air ride, but everyone still calls the SD. Stay away from airbagit.com, you're asking for a bad experience dealing with Joe Morrow. Check out avsontheweb.com and store.gaugemagazine.com also.
the nitrous bottle idea will not look good on a 42 truck, if you must have air bags do a tank that is more traditional to the truck era and not rice it out, a hammered copper cover to the tank will not look off the shelf and not look obnoxious plus stay away from 20 inch flashy chrome rims I have a feeling you may be heading down that choice path, simple steel rims painted to your choice and white walls will look amazing and 100% better then out of period items, in the end its your choice....choose well and have fun with the truck
Good stuff, good guys, but they have been VERY slow in delivery after what sounds like some business partnership/breakup issues. Quite a lot of people have been complaining about 3-4 MONTH wait times for paid orders that they were told were in stock or would ship "right away." I don't know if this is temporary, but several friends have experienced these problems firsthand in the last 6 months or so. Airbagit = AIM = Ratical = Ch***is Tech. Caveat emptor! Edit... Indychus, get out of my head!!
another thought would be hitting the news stand and pick up a mini truck magazine, you will see tons of air suspension vendors, kits, prices, websites plus you will get some ideas on installs by looking at other trucks they do articles on
Dont use any of airbagit.com stuff unless you want constant problems. I have replaced lots of components on customers cars that started from other shops and air bag it parts. They are like the harbor frieght of air ride
flathead johnny, the reason for the nitrous tanks is because i come from a long line of racecar drivers and car guys, i myself raced for 14 years, we didnt use nos bottles in the racecars because we raced on dirt but the idea is the same, its about the look of speed and horsepower, sure its a little ricey but it fits well in my mind with the fuel cell dropped into the bed, the 454 with 2+4 hollys on top, racing inspired gauges, and my non-chrome, non-twenty inch, very conserative 15 inch aluminum wheels..see the best part of this is that theres no rules when your building street rods, to each his own right? and thanks guys about warning me about airbagit.com i wouldnt have known, and thank you matthew mcglothin
x2 they sell nothing but junk also go with 1/2 in lines, not 3/8, look into using a motor driven compressor. You could use 2 dual air compressors, such as viars, but they will put a strain on your charging and electrical system. You will definettly need to upgrade your alternator if you go that route.
Why do I even look at these threads.??? If you do a google search you will find several companies that sell air lift equipent. If you want to dump it ,as in make it drop real fast, you will need fast acting valves. If you want to drive it as in actually push it to the envelop you want to separate one side from the other, the real serious guys actually isolate all 4 corners. More than one pump is also helpful in a performance application. There are people on here that can help you out but if you want to find out the real deal go to a hopper site or a pro-touring site. maybe taking a combination of the two to get it dialed just the way you like it.
check out air ride technologies "shockwaves"... it's an air bag/shock combo that will eliminate the need to relocate shocks, etc... you don't need a kit, just do your research, find what you need, piece it together, and you're good and x3 on stay away from airbagit.com, AIM, ch***is tech, w/e that crook is going by these days... bunch of cheaply made **** that I would stay as far away from as possible
Why do you look at these threads???? Well you did and gave an answer... Go figure. He's lookin for advice on his build not a shove aside. By the way he's not building a low rider ... A "hopping site" is not what he's looking for
No problem man ... Your just tryin to ask for good info. Some people on here don't approve of it . But hey , the same guys claiming to be traditional have lots of modern **** on their car. Just the pot callin the kettle black!
When he said he wanted to dump it it became clear to me that he wanted it to act fast, hoppers are the fellas to go to for dimp it fast technology. At least whenever I am around bags and drag guys when they say that they want to roll in a dump it they are talking about hitting the switch and it drops to dead bottom before they can get out the door. I have him options for places to go to learn about baginning a car with specifics in mind, and taking a blend of those pecifics to make his vehicle do what he wants it to do. The truth of the matter is that I could actually give him step by step intructions on how to do the entire job to his truck, up to and including giving him prints for each and every part of the installation but I am not going to do that any more than I am going to explain to him how to go about turbocharging an LS-7 or where the best place to buy Brembo brakes or 22" hoops for his truck are. There are sites better suited to finding his solutions.
