You all have seen them, they are full circle 15 " usually slightly dished hubcaps (if that is the correct term) on many cars at Bonneville. I even run some of the snap on type on my car. My question is about those being used at Bonneville. When I was shopping around for the ones I have I came across some that were to be put on with screws. How do you do this and not go through the edge of the rim into the tire and cause a loss of air? Just one of those "I gotta know" kinda questions that cross your mind as you try to go to sleep at night. (Well beats counting sheep!) Mike
the screws are very short.... not being a wise *** haha...I prefer the Dzus fastener style as the screwed on ones seem to lose "tension" the more times you put them on/take them off...
Drill and tap the rim before the tire is mounted, and use screws that don't project beyond the inside of the rim lip. Bob

Have you ever seen dragster wheels with the screws run into the bead to hold the tire on? Now I think they use bead locks. But not always. I also like the Dzus ****ons much better that 10-32 screws. But I use screws on the rear and ****ons on front. Oh yeah. They are called Moon Discs after Dean Moon who made and sold them first. and are wheel covers
I drilled and tapped my rims with the tyres fitted. You have to go through an awful lot of rubber before you start to lose air. Pete
They started making those for the old spoked wheels, I believe. An aero dynamic improvement. Those rims and tires had plenty of room for screws plus tubes in the tires
My little chart of best to WTF best-Dzus fasteners 2nd best-screws 3rd best- hub cap style ( you can buy them from moon ) WTF?-the idea quoted from the post above
