Hey guys, I'm building a 55 super red ram 270, for a 471 setup. do you think a stock dual plane 4 bbl intake, with a homemade adapter plate, would work ok for a street cruiser? its going in my 29 model a sedan hot rod. if I can figure out how to post pictures of the car I will. sorry, it now has a belly****on motor. I've enjoyed and learned a lot from all the great info from this forum.

  2. You mean it has a flathead, flatheads are the new small blocks.

Oh I know you mean it has a crate motor in it.

As for the intake a single plane is going to work better for your forced induction. maybe if you shave it deep enough you can loose the divider in the plenum.

BDS use to mill stock intakes and add a blower mount that they had cast to make manifolds for Blower motors(the intake on the post above this is a BDS manifold made like that). Why not make a mount out of Alum plate and mill the manifold down and have a good Alum welder weld it up(if you have an Alum intake). That way you would have a better mount than just the stock 4 barrel opening. Trying to force so much air into so little a space is worse than what NASCAR does to the Speedway motors. I had a friend many years ago who ran one of the first Dwyer blower setups(he used stock intakes with a blower mounting plate) on his corvette. He was always blowing popoff valves. The reason was to much air trying to go into too small a space. As small as a 4-71 is you might be abe to use a plate setup on a dual or triple carb intake. That would mean getting a new intake but then you wouldn't be having pop off valve problems like you will with a single 4barrel intake.

I was thinking about doing what your doing BUT I didn't like how high everything set (intake, adapter, then the blower) So I'm making mine. Here is my manifold build thread. Mine is all done but I have to take it to a good TIG welder for the final welding on the outside.

    Hope it helps.

Great looking intake. I'd love to see the finished setup!

Soon, well hopefully it will be ***embled by the end of this summer. With my work schedule and family commitments taking me into July it will be late summer.

  8. Bear in mind that these early Dodge Hemis are not as strong in the bottom end as you think they are...I certainly wouldn'y go crazy with boost pressure...they all have forged steel cranks from the factory.and two bolt mains....the weak point is the crank snout...they just don't hold together under severe punishment....go ahead and use the custom four barrel intake instead of the blower....if you do use the blower, keep the RPMs reasonable....don't wind it like a SBC.
