seats for a '30 tudor?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 46international, May 11, 2012.

  1. So I have this '30 tudor ford and I need get some seats for it. the body is channeled only 2 1/2" and I plan to chop it around 4" but I need to get straight on seats first. what do some of you all use? I would like to have a rear seat also and they have to be pre '60 or homemade. any ideas?

I hate to admit this, but Honda Civic seats were a perfect fit in my A Tudor. I cut off the headrests to make them look more appropriate. They were comfortable and sat real low on the floor which I wanted.

My car wasn't channeled, but a 3 1/2" chop made things pretty cramped for my 6' 1" body. If I build another A Tudor it will get the same seats. They were the ones with the one sided Star Trek-looking headrests. I also had 3 point belts from the same car, and anchored them about the middle of the rear window.

    Rear seat was custom made.

  3. Thanks, Daddio but I want to go with some older seats. how did you make the rear seat?

  4. Old Volkswagen buckets work well in front and look damn traditional.

  5. Volkswagen? well I guess that is an idea, have not thought about that. I would think a pre '60 set of seats would be hard to find.

I run early triumph seats in my coupe and its chopped 5 inches no channel, they fit great and are comfortable.

  7. I guess I just have to broaden my thinking some. I was thinking of something made in the good ole USA. The bad thing is, they have to be small seats. Not haveing the stock ones, are they any good? does anyone use them? they must, becouse they are hard to find and expensive when you do.

I am in the same position as you 46 and am looking for a split bench front so there is access to the back without the driver having to get out.

  9. rpkiwi, thats an idea, a later split bench but I bet you would have to cut it down to fit. length wise. you could most likely take a couple of inches fron the center, then modify the cover to fit. good idea!!! I know where a '50-'52 chevy is in a junk yard. Guess I have some measuring to do,

I used 1960 Chromecraft barstool seats that i got at an antique store. Got a set of four for like $100 and sold the worst two. They are in my 29sedan and work great with 4 studs already out the bottom to make a frame for. this is not my car but they are just like this..

I spend a lot of time in a Chromecraft barstool and wish it had a seat belt, 'cause I always feel like I'm sliding forward.

The rear seat was simply plywood back and bottom, covered in foam then wrapped in vinyl.

  15. anyone make some front seats that fold to give access to the rear?

The rear seat out of a Cessna 150 fits in the back of an A, the front seats might work in the front of an A as well but don't know for sure.

You need something pretty narrow; no more than ~20" wide and allows the seat-back to tip forward (pivoting at the rear base) and tumbling forward (pivoting at the front) as well.

I have a pair of stock Model A tudor sedan seats in my '28, as well as a set of MG Midget/ AH Sprite / MGB seats that might get used instead.

I'm also shopping for the following, just in case.
    -VW Beetle
    -Jeep

for the Beetle and Jeep check with JC Whittney. New and reasonable... :D

  20. Gary, there are some VW seats for sale on the web. I'm just not sure I want to go that way yet. If you end up using something other than the '28 seats and would like to sell them, send me a PM, I'm in Maryland and could pick them up.

I know this is not hamb friendly and not really old but early 90s suzuki sidekick did a great job in mine. 2 different sets of rear seats. I have a 3.5 chop and a bit more than 3 inch channel. I took these cause they're very thin and foldable. They'll be covered eventually, my project is still a work in progress. Second picture is the finish interior in my friend's hot rod seats also come from sidekicks.
