Awesome! We all have different ways of showing respect to the deceased, and with that said, Carroll Shelby meant more to some of us than others apparently. I was taught that if you have nothing good to say, please keep your trap shut!
What a huge loss to the racing world ! He has done so much for the love he had of racing . He was a true hero and brilliant man when it came to the Ford Cobra and so many other things he has done through out his life time in the racing world . He will truly be missed by so many people that he touched in his lifetime . GOD bless his family for the loss of a true racing legend . Now he is in the best racing world where he will always be a winner ! R.I.P friend ! Retro Jim
To and 35 dodge and saltflatmatt. You two are unbeliveable! Mr. Shelby is an icon of automotive history and you can't display the common decency not to speak negitively about a muched loved and respected man. If you have different opinions about someone fine, but there is no need to sullen the atmosphere when the man hasn't even cooled yet. There is a time and a place, this is neither. Your parents should be horse whipped for raising such disrespectfull asses! If you had any moral character you would delete your posts but, I doubt you do, or will.
RIP. I grew up around mustangs and my dad and I talk about Mr. Shelby a lot. Thank you Mr. Shelby you will be missed.
Like many larger than life men of his era, Shelby lived fast and somewhat loose. He was married many times, partied harder than 10 men and money came and went in large quantities, often quickly. He was the oldest living heart transplant survivor in the world and the fact that living the life he led, with all of the adventures, crashes, close calls, heart trouble, and high speed hi jinks still carried on for 89 years is a testament to how rugged Carroll Shelby was. Bangshift.com ...
Mr. Shelby, you were an inspiration. He's got his head under the hood of some Archangels hot rod right now.
Mr. Shelby sued those who were using his name and products to make a buck without his authorization. He sold his autograph to raise money for those in need of transplants themselves. Shame on those of you who question these actions. The Shelby American shop (1962-1967) was comprised of an assorted bunch of automotive misfits including California hot rodders and English mechanical wizards. He brought together this team and they took on the world (infused with a bunch of Ford cash) and won. We should all be proud of his team and their automotive accomplishments. I first fell in love with Shelbys when as an 8 or 9 year old in the late 60s, I got the model kit with the record inside (the 67 GT500 Super Snake being driven around Riverside Raceway by Carroll himself). I went to the first national Shelby American Automobile Club convention in the mid-70s when I was a teenager (Oakland, CA). My dad and I restored a 67 GT500 back in the late 70s which I took for a drive today. It's not conventional HAMB material, it's no show queen, and it's not numbers matching either, but it kicks ass. Thanks Carroll. RIP
I had the opportunity to work for and meet Carroll on many occasions. During that time, some of which I ran Shelby's fiberglass shop inside a NV prison we had the task or restoring one his his original cars. Here is a pic of the day he visited the prison. I'm on the left, the rest are inmates.
Met the man three times. Had a good chat with him in Detroit way back in the 80's. As much as I'm sure some of the negative stories some are telling have a grain of truth somewhere (Great men don't get that way without rubbing someone the wrong way!); there is no denying the impact the man has had on the automotive landscape. An original, an icon, a legend. Godspeed Carroll Shelby!
Fastest car i ever drove was a Shelby Cobra. 427 side oiler with four 2 barrel webbers w/ a 4 speed. 145mph in 4th gear at 4200 rpm. Scared me to death because at that speed the car due to its low weight for lack of better terms "floats". You almost need an altimeter gauge. Cobras are like 44 magnums.. you point and shoot.. otherwise you get into trouble.. (Thats me on the left. My buddy is driving)
Clearly a huge loss to the the whole car world, run an amazing race, left a legacy which will last forever, R.I.P

I will post photos of this event. It is going to be a wonderful memorial to the man who tamed the cobra. thanks, Douglas Johnson "Skrach" www.VividlyVintage.com
Anyone else going? It is free! If you happen to attend i will be wearing a black shirt with white letters that reads <center> Golden West Mustangs - Shelbys - Specialty Fords <\center> thanks, Douglas Johnson "Skrach" www.VividlyVintage.com
It was a great turn out. Over 600 cars. Maybe 300 cobras both real and kits. Even a real factory cobra race car showed up. They did a moment of silence and a moment of noise (all vehicles revving their engines. 300 cobra big blocks revving all at once was a sound that i will never forget.) I have videos that i will post and photos also that i will post later thanks, Douglas Johnson "Skrach" www.VividlyVintage.com
The videos are shakey but you can see how many cars were there.
