I have been building 4x4s and bikes for yrs... But I now have the "Rat-Truck/Rod" bug and I can't get started fast enough. I picked up a 41 Ford 2-ton truck with a real clean cab and I intend to chop it and build my first rat truck... I am searching for info on the best and not so best ways to go about this... I am looking for a frame to work with but I am not sure if I want to spend alot on this first set up... My questions are many... Is the straight axel in this 2-ton truck of any use to me?... I am not sure if I can use the hood on this rat?, is it std size?, I dont want fenders, and I like to see the front end a bit shorter than some of the rods I see... I plan to chop "alot", and set this truck on the ground with air bags... I will harvest a ford rearend... Any thoughts?, Thx... Left Coast.
Welcome to the H.A.M.B. from Nor-Cal. There's lots of truck builders here, you will get more answers if you leave out the word rat. Many traditional hotrods are unfinished but are skilfully built with time honored parts and tecniques. Not to be mistaken with a crude ***embledge of whatever. It's all good, but this is a forum with respect for and an ear to the history of hotrodding. not ratrods. Happy motoring!
Welcome from Indy...Many guys seem to think that rat and trad are the same....stick around and you'll figure it out. [or get flamed to a nice toasty shade]
