Here is a picture of some Crager Wheels that I bought for the rear of my '26 Ford T Project...(at least that is what the guy told me they were) They are multi fit, and I am having trouble figuring our what type of washers I need, as well as finding some.. I think they are 1970 era ?? Any help will be appreciated as always... And no those double washers are not staying on there... Just on for now so I can roll it around.. Cheers, Bob
Bob: are the holes big enough to allow a mag-style lug nut? Those have a shank that protrudes into the wheel. If not, then a lug nut with built in washer is what you might try. Most will be open
The lug nuts on those wheels have about a 2" shank with the washer. Depending on the stud thread size you should get them at Auto zone. If you can take a wheel with you so you can see if it's the right lug. Jim
The lug nuts I am using were given to me by the guy I bought the wheels from and supposed to be correct for this wheel.... I have seen some washers on Ebay that are dished slightly and have an offset hole in them... Bob, these are about 1 1/2" long lug nuts, and do protrude into the wheel....but the do not pull the wheel tight without some thickness of washer...hence the Micky Mouse washers shown... ???????
sounds like you might have the correct lugnuts, but are missing the correct washers. they should be available at a big box parts store. or just leave it as it is...we expect something Mickey Mouse from you anyway
hotrod48ford above is correct. If they are Cragars, they should use a necked lug nut (closed) along with a washer. I have been searching the net for the last few days looking for vintage mag hardware, there are a few suppliers out there. Cheaper than Auto Zone, they will hit you nearly 50 bucks for a set.
They are Cragar SST's. Actually an 80's design, sorry to say. Look close, they put S S T right on the heads of the perimeter bolts. I believe these are the washers you need... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-27225-4/?rtype=10
If the wheels are cut for shanked lug nuts, they won't center properly without the right nuts. If the holes are only big enough for the lugs, then you are OK with regular nuts.
YEP....THOSE ARE LIKE THE ONES I SAW ON EBAY !! Thanks much...will get some...figures they sell them in sets of FOUR !!!!
Or, try M***eys Accesories on evil bay, they are the largest custom wheel lug nut supplier around, 1 or a hundred.
I've got a bunch of those in the garage from an o/t car I had. I'll dig through them and see if any are still clean enough if you want 'em.
Crager SST's have a tendency to loosen up so make sure you retighten them after you've driven on them for about 50 miles or so. The washers should have a slight cup to them that's why they say wheel side. I had sst's on my 33 Chevy and the washers were not offset they were centered. Of course I'm no expert though...
Would love to buy them from you...and this is a Jalopy build, so don't have to be real clean....can scuff them up and paint them.. Please let me know... And THANKS... Gotta love this Forum.... Cheers...
Just dug them out and I only have 9 of them. I do have ten of the correct lugnuts, if you still want them shoot me a pm with your addy.
You Da' Man whiskey...and I appreciate it very much...PM sent.. Now you Bob...you got to have at least ONE of those washers around you wouldn't miss don't you ???????? I will even come up and take it off for you.... Cheers...
