I will be going down to New Orleans for a wedding this next week (16-23) and was wondering if there was anything car related to check out or anything you can think of that would be cool see around that area! Any reply would be appreciated.
Not sure about car stuff but DO NOT go into any bar with a rainbow sticker on the door! Their idea of Happy Hour is a lot different than you would think!
Keep an eye on your car, been to new Orleans twice and had thieves try to steal my truck both times. Won't set foot in that worthless place ever again.
Forget about cars for a few days & catch some great music & food. This place is different from the rest of the USA!
Yeah forget about cars for a few days. You'll have to much fun staring at all the goofballs wandering the streets. Happy hour is pretty much all day long.
I'm from the big-easy. You can have a wonderful time people watching and listening to music. This is my checklist. All valuables, lock in trunk out of sight. Wallet in front pocket. Keep it 'light' in case you have to give it away. Don't fight for it. Keep back-up money in sock for cab fare. Do not wander off where there are no lights or people. I don't care how big your group is. I've never had any trouble there, but I know those that have, mostly because they didn't obey the checklist, hah!
Good advice. Restrict your interest to the tourist venues and you'll be safe. Anywhere in the French Quarter, Canal St., the Riverwalk, Aquarium, and don't miss the WWII/D-Day museum. New Orleans is an interesting, historical city. True, the murder rate is high, but it's mostly drug dealers and criminals killing other drug dealers and criminals. The City is smart enough to flood the tourist areas with cops so it's relatively safe. Bob
Dirve over to Slidell and go on the Honey Island Swamp tour. aRound $20 per person and you will get to see quite a few gators and other wildlife. Go during the day to the quarter, lots to see and do. Hit Frenchmen street for more local flair than you get on Bourbon. There is plenty to do just be safe. Pay attention to your surroundings, don't go down dark streets or alleys. Stick to the main areas. Don't fall for the I can tell you where you got your boots thing. WWII museum is a must see. If your really bored you can always come visit me If you don't mind driving an hour or so you should hit Gulfport and go to the busted KNickle museum. Check out gulfcoast motorsports magazine. They have adds for several car related things on the coast. They are online also.
I'm headed to NOLA Wednesday to watch the Saints O vs D softball game. Fundraiser to raise awareness of child abuse. No car stuff to speak of around town. Yeah, the French Quarter can be fun for some, but check out Frenchman St...and check out Tipitinas on Napoleon, head out on Magazine St, buy a day pass on the trollies...ride all the way to the end of St Charles...walk on past the tourist trap Camilia Grill and go to the Oak St Cafe, get the world's best poboys at Parkside Bakery and Tavern, go to the Rockin' Bowl on Thursday night to catch Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble. Have catfish and grits for breakfast at Lil Dizzies on Esplanade. If you want to see characters and geeks, hang out at Jackson Square. Jean Lafittes Blacksmith Shop is a good watering hole. Most visitors like to get beignets at Cafe du Monde, but it does nothing for me. The same goes for Central Grocery...they may have invented the muffaletta, but they don't make the best ones.
If someone wants to bet you that they can tell you where you got your shoes, tell them they are on my feet and walk away.
Well.. I lived here 47 years,, Never once did someone try to steal my cars or trucks..Never had anyone try to kill me either.. Alot of good things to do here..And alot has been posted.. Yes we do have some bad people here..But I really think that's every where's you go...And most of the killings here is bad killing bad..(drugs).. Stay out the dark spots..Day time is always the safest time to see everything.. Freaks come out at night...Have fun, And be safe.. You can come see me as well..Your welcome..
Saturday the 19th there will be at least 3-5 cruise nights on both sides of the river i am going to the one on manhattan in harvey
I like to hang out @ erin rose on conti st. it's right off bourbon. Hit the french market, that where my mama use to bring all our out of town quest. I like the blacksmith shop too, but it has to be dark. thursday night go to vaugan's they have live music. stay out of the tittie bars on bourbon. their for tourist. and most important don't bump into anybody with a olain white tee.
I have been a few times, Never had any problems there. like they say use common sense and enjoy. I stayed outside of Laplace and had to do the whole plantation thing with the woman. But it was ok, we stayed in the french quarter for most of the day and till about midnight.. Lots of great food and drinks.. I will move there if I ever leave indiana... love it
Johnny White's, across from Pat O'Brian's in the Quarter is the most "reasonable" locals type bar in the area...very cool place. Advice on Rock n Bowl is spot on for some cool music and a unique scene. Brunch at Court of Two Sisters is off the hook and worth every penny...get there around 11-11:30am and stay till about 1pm., you won't need to eat till the next day. Yum, crawfish and eggs benedict, then some steamship round of beef, mimosas, etc., etc.
Try the French Qtrs. Cafe Du Monde early morning. It is open air so you can sit and people watch. They serve beignets and a coffee & chicory mixed half and half with hot milk. Also Vodoo BBQ on St Charles has some good BBQ and the very best I have ever found white chocolate bread pudding...I never had any problems in NOLA other than LSU Health and Sciences where I tried them for 11 months of college and it really sucked.
Same here never had a problem, and actually walked where i was told not to at night with my wife ( by accident couldn't find the shuttle back to the motel)and my wife kicked over a can of beer of one of the occupiers of the street, and no issue. If I could get her to move there I'd be gone.At least for a couple of years.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think it plays into word play. Where you got your shoes, I got my shoes on my feet.
Yeah, it was a set up. A young kid would run up to a tourist and say" Hey, mister, I'll bet $X I can tell you where you got your shoes!" Whereupon the puzzled tourist would reply "Betcha can't." Kid would say, "Ya' gottem on your feet! Pay up!" Doesn't happen much anymore. Kids lack motivation nowadays, the cat is out of the bag, and there's easier money in drug enterprises. Bob
If you dont mind a 30 minute drive there is a nice show just across the lake in Madisonville. About 200 cars right on the river front, nice and cool under the oak trees. No worries of shootings or stabbings. Do make the WW II museum it's a must see.
100% correct. Almost pulled my belt off to whoop a grown mans ass with it because he kept following us around over that retarded shit. I knew better but my wife didn't....hard to believe now that we got married there. HAHAHA!
