I guess you already know about the Model A parts store and shop in Stafford, right across the road from the Speedway main gate?

Eric has everything in stock, new/used/rebuilt, and all that small stuff is dirt cheap there.

    "A's and More", Stafford CT

Edit, Save yourself some breakdowns by buying an intank gas screen. It gets pressed into the gas shutoff valve and sticks upright in the tank. Eric has those, too. I wish I knew about those years ago, they work slick.

Got some work done today. I fixed the motor mount, put a new gasket and filter in the fuel bowl, put in the new ignition key, plopped in the new battery and rebuilt the carb

gas is a little funky still

And after completely filling the radiator to the top I discovered the water pump was leaking from the packing on the shaft so it came off

more progress tomorrow....I want to drive by Friday

Did you try tightening the packing nut before you removed the pump? They will seep a little...

I did try but it would not move and it was quickly turning into a full blown leak and not just a little drip

    Finished the wiring
    Installed the bulbs
    Installed the battery
    Fixed all the lights
    Repaired front engine mount
Replaced the belt and water pump
    Flushed the gas tank
    Rebuilt the distributor
    Changed all the fluids

...and it still won't run :(

It sounds sooo close. It will fire but won't stay running and I end up trying for too long and flood it.

On the plus side I shot a nest out the exhaust like bird shot!

It seems like the timing is off a bit anyone have a link to a timing guide for the banger

  13. Fordbarn? Nice start you have there. Will make a great hot rod.

remove the bolt in the timing cover with the pin sticking out and turn it around so the pin touches the cam gear. rotate engine, don't use fan you will bend it [and then it will crack and break off] have someone turn the motor with crank slowly until you feel the hole, set rotor to number one on the crank. that will get you started. tweak the timing to the point where the motor sounds late when you retard the spark lever.

Yea, but does he know how to "adjust" the timing at the distributor, not the lever :)

Just found some good YouTube timing videos so I will give it a try. It seems like the engine only wants to start with the timing advanced

A little shot of oil or wd 40 in the cylinders? If things are all dried out you won't have much compression...

    Just a thought

Great start. You should hop up that banger, put a 4" drop axle with big and little's and call it good. But I'm partial to that set up....

yes the timing is off that was when it first ran. I have been messing with it all day and I just can't get everything dialed in correctly. I don't have any experience with this engine so I am just playing guess and check.

might have to run it for a while. i have found that motors that have set idle need time to "wake up". valves reseat, oil gets to everything, rings reseal etc.

I got it dialed in. Timing was the issue. It much better now. As soon as I get proof of insurance we will register it and start driving outside the neighborhood.

And of course the starter switch failed about 5 minutes ago so a new one will be needed monday.

I took it apart and cleaned it up, the contact is not the problem. The pedal just goes to the firewall and does not spring back any more

Awesome find!! I have it's year-older brother, similarly found in a barn, up by Canada. Mine was different in that the prior owner had rebuilt the engine and the interior had been redone at one time - not show worthy, but usable. I'm about 6'4' and 240, so chop and channel is not likely in my future, either, unless the S10 seat I found will work once I cut it down. With no seat adjuster, I had to take out the seat back and use a blanket so I could fit, shift, and brake.
I'm just driving mine as is now, though not very far. It beats me up worse than my old Camaro did. Cool to see another one being recycled!! :)
