Hahaha! Ya know, I was at the Good Guys show in WA this weekend and saw a Boydster there. As I quickly walked passed it (smirking as NO one was even looking at it) I got to wondering if his TV antics have helped or hurt the value of his cars.
Well, I guess this answers that question. Remember, just because you have money does not mean you have taste. Hollywood reminds me of that almost daily.

$100 grand eh? I could have a huge garage built for half that...I could have two hot rods and two kustoms (maybe three) for that price...I could have a summer- long vacation of rod running, staying at the very BEST motels...I could have my own house PAID for and still have money left over...I could start my own magazine and feature nothing but REAL hot rods (oh wait, I think that's been done)...I could...oh, never mind...it all seems like a dream...

Ahhhhhhhh, to have such a predicament for the simple price of simple car...

I don't understand, it says it took 16 months to build......anyone who watches the show knows it only takes 6 weeks for Boyd to build a car! :D

I can see how those guys get burned out.
NO ONE should have to be made to feel like shit if they need a day off for a family function.

Boyd looks like he wants to become the Henry Ford of Hot Rods.
    Buildem buildem buildem.

Oh yea - want to buy some old Boyd's stock ?
I'll sell it REALLY REALLY CHEAP. Thanks Boyd.

  10. I personally think we should never make a post about Boyd- ever- again.

Boyds TV Show is not On Topic.
    His Boydsters aren't either.
And I dont need to see one to realise the value of the HAMB.

But since we have all these nice pics of one to look at, there is one thing that I aways have thought to be a major hickup on those things.

The IFS is bolted to these massive ugly brackets hanging out in the breeze.
Its the one thing that I thought was a let down on Buttera's 3W Coupe when it was featured in HRM in '79, and now almost 30 years later its still being done the same way.
Exept it looks even worse because the rest of the Car has gotten that much smoother...

Alright, i'll put my head on the block. I like it. I like the proportions, I love the fit and finish, and I love that suspension, the front arms and spindles are a work of art.

That being said, it could be so much more than what it is with some attention to detail. Not in having stripes in the doorjams, but in having things like exposed hinges. Something like 50 Ford trunklid hinges on the doors. A set of vintage door handles. Real headlights and taillights. I can see it being a real late 40's Deco spaceship with the right wheels and tires, paint, and interior. It is pretty cookie cutter, but it could be so much more is some thought was put into it.

  15. I'm gona buy it and do smokey burnouts with it... drive it to walmart to buy a boyds t-shirt.

  16. I guess the color of money isn't making anyone green with envy.

I look at it as a tomato, tamatta kind of thing - some people flip you the bird, others give ya the boyd... The difference? The latter is done quickly and lacks any real sense of style.

Boy, that should be in someone's signature. Feel free to borrow it -

personally i don't see what the big deal is. boyd makes rods that are to his personal tastes, and they have a distinctive flair to it. if he wants to make $100k rods for people willing to shell out that much money for it, i say more power to him, and that's his 'kuleana' as far as i'm concerned. i don't really think people on the hamb would be any happier if he was making the same amount of money turning out traditional rods. part of what appeals with traditional rods is that it's different than what the mainstream rod culture wants and expects. if you lost that difference, what we love might not be as exciting.

now i'm not sayin that we should all love boyd or that without guys like boyd what we do wouldn't be interesting at all, it's just more an attitude of 'viva la difference'...

  18. Those things are almost getting to be as common and black primer and red rims with wide whites.

God knows they're easier to swallow than the "Rat Rod" crap we've had to hear about ever since that term became main stream.

Okay....I never like to bad mouth anybody's car, but....if you're gonna have the nerve to charge upwards of 100 large to buy a street rod (cuz that's what this is boys and girls, it's definitely NOT a hot rod), then i'm gonna have the nerve to pick it apart. First off, that's gotta be the gronkiest gas door I think I've ever seen. Where did the inspiration for this fine piece come from? Next, a car of this caliber (read money bracket) should have EVERYTHING either polished or plated on the drive train. The painted belt idler and crank pulley don't cut it, and niether does the painted trans. I only glanced through the pictures breifly in an attempt to keep my sanity, but I also noticed that there wasn't any real attempt to hide the wiring harness on the motor either. Black wiring harness cover just doesn't make it, and is it really that hard to run the wires in a braided hose? I like the GM barcodes on the mass airflow sensor and throttle body too....they look like shit. Front fenders, running boards, and rear fenders should all be one piece....it'd be that much smoother...rear fenders should end where the body ends, or the body should end where the fenders end....the way it is now, just makes me think that something's missing....oh yeah, and if you're gonna sell it for over 100 G's, for god sake, smooth your welds! The welds on the rear coil over mounts are atrocious on a car like this....okay I said my piece....I'm done venting now....

  25. You know, I met Wayne Halabura once. (the builder). He ran his Ford Thunderbolt through a fence in an old man's yard on Eighth Street in Saskatoon street racing a buddy of mine in his 55 150. My thought then was this guy was a putz, and when i did meet him I had to ask - my nature as a shit disturber:)

If anyone is at the Superrun in Saskatoon this summer, I am sure he'll have something there, make it a point of asking him about the street race he had against Ian Macdonald down Wiggins Ave. in Saskatoon. He 'won' the race because Ian slowed down for the meridian and Halabura went right through, over the divider, between two houses and a fence, and back out on the street. He did win the race though....

yes im glad i found the hamb or otherwise i would have built me some boydster for sure :)

the billet specialties and dakota digital and such catalogues was thrown out , but heck i can still build me a kitcar from the catalogues from moon and so-cal you know :)

personally i'don't care at all if some people build high tech rods, some can be cool, and most often people sell out the old goodies in favour of a crate engine and mII front ends, so alot of us trad rodders can get ahold of these parts...

that car is not really my cup of tea but. awell seen alot worse,

I can appreciate the car, and it's certainly a higher quality workmanship than I'm capable of attaining, but...it's just another Boydster, BTDT. For that kinda cash, I'd expect something fresh.
