I think only of the only cars I ever remember hearing of that specifically had an oval speedometer was a Hillman Minx... 48 or 49 I think.... But I could be a dirty liar... Good luck. Erin
Looks like it is in a 32 Ford dash.........and I like it 57 Olds ? mmmmmmmmmmm I might have to find one.
What strikes me is how clean and neat the styling becomes when it's removed from the Olds--it is lost in the jungle of chrome and swoopy shapes in its original home. It goes instantly from automotive Baroque to simple and functional looking--and even gets along with the '39 knob in front of it.
Burger, Can you post more photos? That is one of the best detail shots I've seen, looks like The Rodder's Journal quality photography.
did Olds use that insert more than one year, many moons ago I had a '54 hardtop and thought the speedo looked similar.
How come Burger's original post pegs at 120, but all the replies go to 200? Are we talkin' Canadian metrics here, or those special Oldsmobile LSR models produced in July - September of 1956?
thanks for the identification, guys. can anyone confirm if the cluster was available in earlier years? the original picture was taken by socalcarculture. thx! ed
Olds used the same basic design in 1956 as well. In reply to the 1954 question, up until 1955 Olds used modified versions of thier circular guages (usually with clock/clock delete) corresponding on the opposite side of the dash in similar fashion. But I believe up intil 53 fuel/temp/o-press guages were in the circle, 54/55 were not. I'm still looking for a roadster so I can use this way cool 51 Kaiser guage cluster my dad got me at a garage sale!!!
thanks denise! i see the shape is slightly different on the '56 and probably wouldn't work by itself. thx! ed
