Dane.. Sprints , both wing and non wing right down the highway from you at watsonville fairgrounds. (ocean speedway) At least twice a month from march thru september. usac/cra 410 non wing cars, king of california sprints, usac west coast 360 sprints, the local non wing class, and more... Dave
That was a great race. Safe to assume the video ended on the last lap? I have some buds who make that whole week and then go to Knoxville for the Nats. Bucket list for me. Gary
I've really been considering moving to Tennessee, but if there are no sprint cars, Iay have to reconsider!
Ya mean those bat mobile looking things that are twice as heavy as they need to be and look like dogs lifting their legs for a pee in the turns? L>O>L. Besides vintage racers, modern midgets, sprints and NASCAR style modifieds are my favorite types of oval racers. But I have not yet seen (also a bucket list item) the wacky n fast contemporary super modifieds. One day... Gary
Dont forget Illinois sprint week either, 410's with wings. And If you really wanna see something amazing go see a World of Outlaw's sprinter run at Peavely Mo. Its a 1/3 mile track, the track record is 10.18 seconds @ over 117 MPH average
Sprint cars in Fairmont Minnesota this Saturday Night. First time in 12 years that they have had Sprints run there. I'll be there!
Yeah, those. Obviously you haven't been to East Bay. Shame, since you live right there. Anybody that says Late Model dirt cars don't put on a great show, has not seen them race. Period....
Just got into the 1/10th scale version of sprint cars. Electric powered and a real clay oval to run on. Lots of fun and lots cheaper. Still love the big ones.
Saw the 360 sprints a couple a weekends ago at Lucas Oil Speedway. The modifieds looked like they were chained to a post after watching the sprint cars. Going to see SCOTS a couple of nights in a row next weekend.
Hey, I was just funning ya. I've been to East Bay quite a few times (it's 10 miles from my house). And the racing is great, but I just can't understand why those cars have to hike up like they do. FYI, I do have quite a few local friends that are drivers, have kids or relatives that are drivers, are crew, or builders, or sponsor, etc. down here. I've met them all in a round about way (pun intended) thru my hot rodding travels. They have names like Dixon, Reutimann, Kempgen and Gilbertson - the last two are also HAMB members! Gary
Custom Works are in the Mod class. Really nice cars. There is a spec class for the Losi cars that gets about 20 cars. Have to be out of the box stock. For some reason Losi quit making the Slider. I got the last one at the LHS. Guess this is a little OT so better get back to the big ones.
It's mechanical traction. It's all about the weight transfer. Going forward is the ULTIMATE goal. The engines just keep making more HP. The only way to hook them to the ground is weight transfer. Left front up= Right rear planted. My Dad raised HELL about the cars carrying the left front, until we were winning...... Kinda lost the argument after getting his picture made with the checkers. Just sayin'
OSS .. so is the chassis rigid or is front wheel lift due to torque and chassis tweak? .. that action right there is what makes my neck hair stand up, especially running three wide,! DMW .... I always thought San Jose was alittle too hard packed ... almost like driving on asphalt. Saw Kinser and crew there before and everyone was haveing a hard time getting hooked up.... but the locals had it dialed-in.
Sprint cars race here in Ventura, sounds awesome from my house! I love to go watch but should go more often. Good to see SCOTS have a lot of fans on the H.A.M.B. I have been a huge fan for many years! They are constantly playing in my garage.
Here's what I mean... this car hunkers down in the turn, even leaning towards the inside a bit. On the other hand, the late models hike the other way, the body raising what seems like a foot on the left (for weight transfer, I understand). But this non-wing car seems to be hooked up and nearly level in the turns and doesn't have that dog taking a leak look. So what's different about their chassis and setups? Gary
The chassis is fairly rigid, some flex is built into the car on purpose. We have mounted flex measuring devises on the cars to see what's going on. Usually no more than 1/8" anywhere. The front wheel is definitely lifted due to HP/TQ planted to the dirt. That is all controlled by the suspension links and shocks. SCOTS hanging out in the garage.... Really? That's just too cool. All sprint cars (that I know of) run a torsion bar suspension. They also are very narrow and weigh 1200lbs. If they had to weigh 2300lbs and have a 7' wide body rule, things would look VERY different. Maybe like this.... These are just a few random shots from my computer. These cars win races. I'm fairly certain they know how to make their car look going around the track. Sprints vs. Late Models has been argued to death.... They are both BadAss. JMO.
This was the Jackson Mn travelling sprint show stopping in Fairmont Mn. It was a good event. The track is a 1/2 mile with nice big turns. The winged sprints were really getting around there quick tonight!
