Hey guys, I found a 1952 Meteor Customline about a month ago and decided I wanted it! It all started a couple years ago when I bought a solid 53 f100 with a 302 and all that stuff off dirty dan here on the hamb. It was the most reliable car I've ever owned, it was incredible and it was just damn cool. Plus, its hard to take the t coupe out in the rain! One thing led to another and I sadly had to sell it and have missed it like a lost puppy ever since. I guess the Meteor is to fill that hole haha The Customline was a running driving car that had been on the road for the last couple summers. I'm not sure how it was on the road, but I bought it as a fixer upper to make a nice reliable driver out of... Turns out its become a comlpete project . I'm not sure if thats a good or bad thing yet. Here it is on the ride home When iI got it home, well... I had to rip the gay interior out. Black felt covered the doors and rear seats, Dodge neon front buckets, a gross steering column and wheel that was held in place with 5 hose clamps and moved around like mother .... did I mention the neon light bars on the inside? Out came the sketchy wiring the previous owner did, out came the entire interior, out came the dash, cm30 (chris) helped speed the progress up my cutting the steering off. Turns out I was left with an ugly shell rolling around on mix matched 14 and 15 inch wheels with moon caps. with the front end pointing at the moon A little after shot with the new wheels, tires and 56 Olds hub caps. a DEFINITE improvement To my surprise the drums, front and rear were completely rebuilt and in great shape. All brake lines wheel and master cylinders have been done too. Its one of those cars where everything has been done but you think to yourself "why did they even bother?" Either way, I got enough done to call it a driver... When I went to fire the "running" 302. (all i did was change the distributor to one of those external adjusting powerfire distributors.) I started to turn it over and the motor started barfing oil all over. Turns out its got a bad rear main sea, I'm pretty sure. It didn't take much convincing for me to tear it out on su****ion since I hate the motor in the first place. So... it is no longer in the car. It was leaking like this when I bought it and heard it run but seemed to be ******* out the dip stick hole. Ah well... Anyone need a distributor or headers!?!? More on the motor issue soon... Out with the old... In with the... 425 Buick Flintsone? This far I've redone the wiring, put in a vintage air heater, electric wiper motor, changed the dash up a little, put in a late 50s chevy column and a cool wheel that I know nothing about other than it looks cool. I had to make up an adapter for that one with an old f1 wheel and shaft. Gone back to the original gauges, new 15 inch wheels all around with 56 Olds hub caps, Coker wide whites. Aerostar springs up front, 3 inch lowering blocks (for now ) complete exhaust from the motor back. cleaned a LOT up inside and out. Whats on tap you ask?... I have some 51 Buick grill teeth, stock bumpers, hopefully find some cool side trim that will work with a nice paint job down the road. Fix a bit of body work, fix the messed up headlight frenching attempt and get some nice chrome head light rings. The rears will receive the same treatment. I'd like to ditch the lowering blocks in exchange for making new rear frame rails and pulling the springs up beside the frame opposed to being under the rails. A nice pleated interior of course... make it nice is all. Back to the motor... I was debating on finding a good 302 to put back in but at the end of the day I'm not a 302 guy at all, and spending the money to replace something I don't like just doesn't make sense. So the next step was looking at the 324 Olds I have sitting around in the garage that's supposed to go in my 26 roadster...After dreaming about that for a little, I think its been a little too hopped up to be in a driver. So Chris decided to bug me about putting a Nailhead in, since he is a Nailhead guy and all. I think it started as a joke but the hunt is on for a good 401 or 425 to put in. As far as finding a solid runner that comes with a good transmission needing minimal modifications compared to the Olds... It only makes sense. Go big or go home... Right? I think this is my first build threat... It better be a quick one because this wasn't supposed to turn into a build!
well shes looking awefully good right now. You should show us just how awefull it was before! I had to take a purple crushed velvet interior with red piping out of the 53 mainline i had years back. I just knew that old girl thanked me for making her less of a pimp-mobile.
I actually took pictures when I got it of the interior and how ugly the engine bay was but it actually broke my camera!
Just a small update. Im kind of p***ed the point of no return now. I dropped the front of the fenders about 3 inches to help with the look of running plymouth bumpers. I know there are a lot of mixed feelings on these things but the way I'm seeing it... I think it might just work. I think the Buick headlight doors I picked up really help with the look. Here is the masking tape and jack stand visualising A bit of cut and paste. I need to pick up some bar and steel tomorrow to work in the fender to the door. I wont be using the side lights so obviously they have been cut out to smooth in with the rest of the fender. Wish me luck... its my first time! Let me know what you think!
I dig the Nailhead in a Ford. I dig the custom treatment. I dig.. Everything about it. Keeping my eye on this one.
