    Hey,

I'm new to the whole 50's car thing. I bought a 54 Customline that needs some love and hope to have on the road in time for a car show in June.

It was sitting for 5 years before I trailed it home form the 2nd owner's house. It's a 239 w/ Overdrive

Here's what I've done. Changed oil and filter w/ zddp oil. Man that can style oil filter is messy.

Changed coolant and added Watter Wetter.

Fixed brakes- new wheel cyl's, clean and adjust.

Cleaned carb, changed plugs. Drove 35 miles. Runs great.

Currently I'm re-wiring the 6 v system. The wires were horrid. Bare and exposed.

I need to replace the tires. The car rides on 30 y/o bias ply wide whites. The arn't cracked or worn, just old. Do you know if a set of 215/7015's will work on the car w/o rubbing on anything?

I'm going to convert the car to have a modern oil filter. Also going to add a fan shroud, but need to fabricate some mount brackets as I am running the original radiator.

Underisde is ruff. Overdrive is INOP.

My car looks decent from a few feet away. It had a resto in the early 80's but the body work isn't the straightest. It has only 73k actual miles and I'm the 3rd owner. I'm not sure how Kustom I'll make this car, but I do want to make it more modern and highway friendly.

Any help you can provide would be awsome.

    Thanks,

Make sure to pull the casting numbers on the Y to make sure its a 239. Those EBU's got thrown away relatively new, and if it was restored it might have a 292 that is dressed to look like a 239.

If you're interested in doing a t-5 swap, its a pain in the ***, but I have some tips!

A lot of cheeseheads in the house. Thanks for the welcome.

I went to work on the old bone last night and found my battery was dead. I hooked up the charger to find the horn relay clicking loudly. It did have a problem with the horns blaring at random, so i thought un hooking the horns would fix the problem. Guess not.... I'm sure as we work on the wiring we'll find the issue.

My engine is a 239. I think only the upper 1/2 has been re-worked. I notice shiny head gaskets and new frost plugs in my heads. He claims the valves were re-worked to run on unleaded. The lower 1/2 of my engine still sports it's original yellow paint and m***ive oil leaks.
