New Guy here. Been lurkin hard for years. Finally registered. Love the site. It's got a funky vibe here. The 65's are an outcast among 60's lanes...I like that! I bought mine in Vegas 15 years ago. Thought seriously about the straight axle up front, but thought it could get dangerous at the big end. Let's admit the stock front suspension isn't exactly F1 caliber either! Ended up taking everything we could out of the front end and even though it not the classic straight axle, she sits plenty high. This is an old pic (no motor), but it sits almost this high with the drivetrain installed. Thanks for the awesome thread! Love me some 1965 T-bolts! JD
I just picked up the 65 Fairlane from a good buddy of mine and fellow Hamber Teddisnoke. Dale knew I was looking for a A/FX project car and gave me first shot. I must admit the car wasnt real attractive to me at first but the more research I do and picks I see, Im really starting to dig it. I like the fact that there are not many around.
johnny4-speed;the front end may not be F1 rated but they handle great!! My 65 Comet runs about 130 in the quarter and have a few friends with Ford products using the same front end going 150+ in the quarter!!Look how fast Trans Am cars run from the 60s,using the same design front end!If you want to keep the stock front end but raise it,use big block Mustang front coils, been there, done that! ROY.
I personally don't have any love for the style. It's the one mid-60's car the Ford stylists just didn't get right. Having said that, there's a beautiful one for sale here in Spokane. I know the car and it's done right inside and out. http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/2974633126.html jack vines

Update: April '14- Wiped out Comp solid flat tappet cam after an hour of break in. 6 lifters munched. Bad times. Pulled cam, heads, lifters, oil pan, oil pump, inspected main/rod bearings, etc. No bearing contamination, but oil pump showed wear. July '14- Tax return showed up. Started getting a parts pile going. April '15- Replaced Comp with Isky solid roller .640"x262 deg @.050" along with their solid bushing lifters, Isky roller springs and Ti retainers, new oil pump and 2 MLS head gaskets. June '15 - Start up(take 2) was drama-free, fired right up, sounded happy, oil pressure good, mixture looked good, temp never above 190. Just gotta keep moving forward.
