Words of advice would be to keep the 215.

Looks like a cool truck, be a shame to lose some of the character.

  3. And ad some torque.

I have seen them with 396s in them, the common swap when I was young was an early Rocket.

Eh why a 454? Put a y block or a olds rocket or a nailhead or something in it. I you gotta have some later big block get a 390 block and build a 445 stroker with parts from survival motorsportsz

If that's the concern then yes, strip the thing down and build the biggest engine that your money will allow. You don't need to roll your eyes at me just because you disagree.

If you are into just cramming big engines into whatever you can find that's cool and that's your bag. Not everybody needs to do that.

A flat V8 will drop in with few mods, you know that's the right thing to do!

Well, you're getting lots of advise about what they'd do if it was their truck - but it's not. If what YOU want is a 454, then go for it. I agree, it would be more fun than the old six, or a flathead. I haven't done this swap, but I've got a spare 454 if you need measurements. Probably the steering box and exhaust will want the same space. One of our car club guys did this swap a few years back, and it worked good. Haven't seen him in a while. So, I'm really not much help, but i'm on your side!

Thanks everyone for your input my original plan when I got the truck was to rebuild the engine and ****** but after I got the trans rebuilt I came across a 454 and thought about swapping it in instead what pushing me away from the 215 is the lack of support in the aftermarket or market period I do agree a redone 215 would be nice but parts are hard to come by

  13. first of all let me say that I have owned my 52F1 for 32 years....I started with a 390FE engine...had a toploader 4speed trand...everything fit very tight, but it fit.every motor and trans mount was made by me...now you can buy motor mount crossmembers for the FE block...steering box clearance was very closewith stock manifolds.I got Sanderson shorty headers and they fit great....after about 21 years of using the big FE block, I swapped in the stock flathead...bolted fight in...after 3years of flathead power, I replaced it with a 1955 Dodge 270 cu. in. Red Ram Hemi w/all synchro 3speed trans from a Dodge pickup...this is the best combo by far...the steering box clears well and the Hemi really stuffs the engine bay...I have headers and tri power also...runs really strong...lots of torque and grunt....whatever engine you might use...get a front disc conversion BEFORE you drive it on the street...stock Ford brakes **** BIGTIME !!!...even if you use the six again, convert to discs for driving in modern traffic...and put seatbelts in the old girl too....just remember this...if you can't stop then nothing else really matters....if you hit anything because of poor brakes, it's game over....good luck !!!
