Not a good idea...It is mainly for filling scratches etc...It doesnt have enough strength for any building

If you need to build, why not either just build with primer?

  4. I'm getting ready to shoot with primer filler but have a couple areas that are too small for regular filler and the spot putty just sands off. Maybe I'll hit it with the primer and see how it looks after sanding, thanks.

I'm blocking out my car now. I bought this stuff called "Dolphin glaze" to fill pin holes and scratches. Unfortunately I came across a low spot in the peak on one of my fenders, I was thinking spot putty too. I guess the general consensus is no...

Tempting to fill with it, but better off with body filler. I know, I know, you didn't want to skim it ONE MORE time :)

but actually that last super thin coat of body filler saves so much time, because the car will be so much straighter before doing hi build primer.

Used dolphin on my car just before spraying sealer on a pin hole I saw... its the only discolored spot on the whole car (bout the size of a nail head).

You really can't and shouldn't attempt to build with spot putty. Has no inherent strength, and is basically just primer with no solvent in it.

  9. I never use spot putty. Fill it with bondo or high solids primer.

spot putty and glazing putty are 2 different things...spot putty is for small pin holes and light scrathes thats all...like others said..it thick primer that shrinks alot...ive been in it so long...back when we used laquer..we'd take some primer, let it sit out and get thick and almost hard and spread it for spot putty with a spreader..lol..it shrank alot..then i learned how to really straighten stuff, and didt use it much...

glazing putty is a catylized product like filler...its just a finer, smoother, slicker product...i used to take standard filler, and thin it down with fibergl*** resin way back to get that smoothe slicker filler, on my finish coat...now they have it in a can and call it glazing putty...

id never use spot putty today..except if i was in the booth and found a small pin hole...the catalyzed product is going to be so much better...

  12. Putty is for small scratches and pinhole only, but what do I know, I've only done this for a living since 1974?
