I just picked up a couple sets of 1935 ford wire wheels for my coupe and i was wondering how strong they were? the coupe will have a snotty little small block and a four speed... will they hold up? i dont think the car is going to grab traction but im sure they could still see some abuse... i did a search and found some cool history on early ford wire wheels but nothing that talked about how tuff they were...
I would not trust them while bang shifting a small block. Probably ok if you keep your foot out of it. But whats the point of the small block if you cant use it
Put them to the test. You gotta few spares. The roads weren't too flash back in 35, and your sets are still alive. Just try them out (on the back rd)
i could see witch goes first! the banjo rear or the wire wheels! ive been curious about both... (defenatly on the back rd)
I would say it depends on their condition. Are they rusty, cracked lug holes, bent spokes. Lot of variables you might want to check out.You might want to run bias plys instead of radials. If you are using a differant drum be sure to install the ring spacer(several places sell them or you could make some from a piece of pipe) so they mount up properly. You could get in touch with wheelsmith or McClean wire wheels or vintique wheel or there is a hamber that makes wheels <CRS> on his name @ this moment & ask their advice.
