seen 'em about a year ago, i could do without Kevin Cronans' speeches and his, well, gay act.... just ain't the same without richrath.....
I don't have one, but I did aquire this REO grill shell striped by Blaine Scott several years ago. He's outta Kansas, and one of McPhail's original Artist at Large minions.
I used to work in the diner they're sitting in on the back cover of T.W.O. That's the only REO Speedwagon album I own and the only reason I own it. To keep it car related, that white 4-door mercury with the drumstick door locks that's been at the Pileup the last couple of years is always parked out front. The owner has a drum shop right down the street.
got a problem with that? hey, i like Kiss too. i taught gene simmons that toungue trick and why don't we have a smilie for "bullshit"?
They also made cars I have a book around here somewhere with pictures of some of them. I googled them and found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reo
They made a lot of fire trucks, or a lot of them were turned into fire trucks. They were pretty sharp but I prefer the one on the left BTW my dept needs a parade truck if anyone needs a good tax write off
Hey, Denise - Come to Bay City this summer for the fireworks. REO is headlining the show. I have to listen to my father-in-law tell the same story of how they played at his high school (same high school I teach at!) back in the 70's. "Riding the Storm Out", you know, the siren at the beginning... I'm not that old but old enough to know that they used to rock before they started making that slow dance shit...but I will be at that concert, lighter in hand for "Keep on Lovin' you".
Yes, and you can add Bob Seger, The Eagles, ZZ Top, Foreigner, Elton John, Rod Stewart, etc to the mix. My CD collection is a '70 time warp.
They play each summer here in the Metro Detroit area at an outdoor venue called "Pine Knob", or at least it use to be called Pine Knob. It's been renamed the "DTE Music Theather" or something like that. Us oldtimers still call it Pine Knob. They have a few hundred pallivion seats under a canopy and the rest is a grassy hill. Really cool place to see a concert in the summer. I make plans to see them about every other year or so. When the nite they play doesn't interfer with a car event. Now back to our regularly scheduled car talk
Denise, You know you are really "old" when you realize that when the band first released records, that you wondered why they stole the name of a car company for the name of their band. Oh yeah, and you're old when you remember when records were the only way music was sold and you needed a record player with three speeds, 78, 45 and 33 rpm. And you had records for all three speeds. Bob Seeger. I remember some of his stuff. But you have to have surf rock playing in the garage or the daily when you're driving. I'd really rather have a "real" REO Speedwagon fire truck.
I heard it from a friend who, heard it form a friend who, heard it from another you've been building HotRods..... Why do I know that?
A way better band named themselves after a piece of heavy equipment spotted in a field. The REO is a neat car though. "The Springfield Machinery Co. made a steamroller called the "Buffalo". The logo was the word Springfield in an arched letter configuration with the word 'buffalo' more prominent in the middle of the arch. the group saw a parked "Springfield ~ Buffalo" and called themselves Buffalo Springfield unaware they had it backwards."
man, talk about wierd. i read this yesterday morning, and guess what i found 20 min. ago, less than 2mi. from my house? a 1931 reo speedwagon 1 1/2 ton pickup, in INCREDIBLE unrestored condition, i mean perfect grille, not nice, PERFECT, and only one 5-6" spot of rust in one rear corner. fenders and running boards were in real good shape, too. the owner was one of the nicest guys id ever met, and said he wants to think about selling it before he does it. didnt seem like the kind to jack the price because somone wants it. he did take my name/number just in case he also had a completely restored mid-late 20's chevy touring. it was just cool enough to see the truck and meet such a nice guy. let alone i may have one badass hotrod project comin home with me soon!!
I wandered in and saw them at the FL state fair... it was kinda creepy walking into an auditorium and it was 1982... People wearing bandanas around their thighs, feathered hair and knee-high laced moccassins and baseball jersey T-shirts with cracked REO iron-ons... <shuddering> I think I posted something about Ransom E. Olds and Oldsmar, FL a while back. he was a goofy f'er.
1942 Reo Speedwagon in Holley By The Sea, Florida. withSmall Block Chevy, truck once owned by Minot State University hauled Grand Pianos. Extended Cab built from 1940 Ford front fenders *Original Stainless Headlight Buckets
I had heard of REO's but never seen one until I went to my grandmothers house this past thanksgiving. I was driving around with my son hunting for any old car/trucks and I spied both of these next to a railroad yard in more of an industrial part of town. Of course I had to have them. I didnt know what I was going to do with them but I thought they were cool. I really like the front ends on them. I hauled them three hours home and can't quite thinking about them, but I'm helping my son with his project for now.
When I was a little kid I rode a Diamond REO bus to school. The thing that stands out in my mind about it was walking in front of it and looking up at a big chrome heart shaped grill with a red diamond at the top. It was owned and driven by an old guy and was always clean, shiney and somewhat art deco looking. It was rounded and two-tone, when all the other buses were square and shitty yellow.
When I looked at the first date on this post, I thought "got to be a FNG cause who else would drag up a 6 year old thread?" Then, the pictures got posted and I thought "I like old trucks!". Thanks.
