I just got my 55 f100 yesterday and I want to install a tilt column. I would like to use a used GM colunm for cost reasons. What year should I look for. I don't care if it is a key on column or not (pefer key on column), also the truck is and auto. I would also like to converted to power steering. It has the stock axle with the spring eyes flipped. I would like to keep this set up for now. How about power brakes? Thanks!

  2. Jeep Cherokee column. I believe mine is a '90-'92 vintage. GM based, 33" column. (Length is good for me, I'm short on one end. )
The columns are over looked by car guys, so they're CHEAP.

  3. IS the front end still stock axle? if so the easiest power steer conversion is
the 4x4 toyota pickup steering box.

The GM column in my 55 is probably 70-71 Cutl***, really don't remember. I think all the columns from 69-72 "A" body GM are the same except for style of levers. I tigged up a stainless drop, got rid of the column key, and made a stainless sleeve to cover all the junk on the lower part of the column.

I can't be of any help on the power steering since my truck frame is clipped with a 70's chevelle frame section.

Late 60s early 70 column work well. No plastic

Look for a column out of a mid 70s GM car or pickup. GM put the ignition switch on the column in 1969 in both cars and trucks. Try to avoid the "smart stick" columns with the dimmer switsch in the turn signal lever.
